Two months later, but from what I'm posting below there was no saving Z as a Cub.

On August 12, 2011, against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, Zambrano allowed five home runs. After the fifth home run he allowed, he threw two inside pitches at Chipper Jones. Zambrano was subsequently ejected from the game by home plate umpire Tim Timmons. This would turn out to be Zambrano's final appearance with the Cubs. Following his ejection, Zambrano cleaned out his locker from the visiting team's clubhouse, and told the team's personnel that he was retiring.[68] The next day, on August 13, the Cubs suspended Zambrano for 30 days, preventing him from performing or attending any activity with the club, as well as having his pay suspended for a period of 30 days.[69] Zambrano later apologized to the Cubs and their fans, saying he wanted to "remain a Cub for life" and that his comments about retiring were said out of frustration. He appealed for a shorter suspension through the MLBPA.[70] On September 2, the club announced that Zambrano would not participate for the remainder of the 2011 season.[71] Cub teammates did not express sympathy for his plight, with veteran pitcher Ryan Dempster remarking, "He's made his bed. Let him sleep in it. It's not like it's something new."[72] As Zambrano spent the rest of the 2011 season on the restricted list, he finished the year 9–7 with a 4.82 ERA in 24 starts.

I have absolutely no memory of this happening at all, I must have been really checked out.

Me either, and I wasnt really checked out. I would have said that Z’s last year with the Cubs was like ‘09.

I remember that happening. He was off the horsefeathering rails there at the end. I recall after Theo and Co. took over Theo sat down with him for dinner over the offseason to discuss the future and shortly thereafter I think they decided to move on from him, no?

I don't remember what happened in the game 3 days ago. Why would I remember some game half a decade ago?

I mean, a big name pitcher getting ejected, storming out of the damn stadium during the game and out of nowhere declaring he's going to retire isn't just "some game."

Hopefully it’s just a grade 1 strain for Pedro. Tanaka hurt BOTH his hamstrings running the bases and had a grade 1 and only missed 1 start and Jake last year had a grade 1 and missed only 2 starts (but we built a decent lead over that time, iirc, and maybe it was being extra careful, he did it on that Labor Day start in Pitt). Either way hopefully it’s a grade 1 because that seems like a ~10 day at max for missed time and could get him back the last 1-2 series of the year and certainly playoffs.

We have had 0 pitching luck in regards to injuries this year though. I fully expect to see Strop next pitch in Arizona, March 2019

But I probably didn't see it, so.....

But seriously, I have like zero memory for most baseball games. I barely remember individual World Series games outside of Game 7. Then again, I haven't rewatched any of them

But it's not even remembering the game so much as, "hey, remember how Zambrano horsefeathering left and retired basically in THE MIDDLE OF A GAME?" Like, that was a thing much discussed outside of just, "hey did you see that game the other day?"

And I'm sure if I did a search of the board, I probably even talked about it at the time. I just don't remember it much anymore

Sent out to the season ticket holders:

Back in the mid-1980s, our organization was searching for a way to connect with fans hungry for year-round news about the Cubs. Out of that need, Vine Line was created.

As we explore and invest in new and existing content delivery platforms to meet the evolving ways our fans consume Cubs news and features, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Vine Line at the end of the year.

The December 2018 issue will be the last. As we prepare to wind down this publication, we’d like to take a moment to recognize our valued readers as well as the current and past Vine Line editorial staff for its commitment to providing high-quality, in-depth content to Cubs fans for more than three decades.

We will continue to deliver unique and engaging content across our various platforms and provide meaningful benefits to you, our valued Season Ticket Holders.

We appreciate your continued support of our team and organization.

Truly the death of some hard-hitting investigative journalism.

Kind of interesting. Cubs are .500 or better against every opponent except the Cardinals (7-9) and Indians (1-3).
