Cubs coaching staff 2019

Postby jersey cubs fan » Tue Nov 27, 2018 3:10 pm

https://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/201 ... -and-more/

"That will be the part that will be different," Maddon said. "I've always kind of stayed free of coaching because I really want to stay out of coaches' way so they can do their job. I've always felt that is the right way to do it. But this year I'm going to get a little more hands-on involved in actually coaching. I think that's where the comment came from. …. I actually want to do less before the game talking to the media and whatever and try to get on the field more often."

I don't remember seeing this noted here:

Tulsa Drillers hitting coach Terrmel Sledge is returning to the majors as the Chicago Cubs' assistant hitting coach.

Sledge, 41, was an outfielder in the majors with the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres from 2004-07. He was a teammate of Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish in Japan in 2008-09.

Sledge began his coaching career with the Cubs’ short-season Class A affiliate Eugene (Oregon) in the Northwest League. He spent the past three seasons with Tulsa working with hitters such as Cody Bellinger, Alex Verdugo, top catching prospect Keibert Ruiz and the Drillers' first-ever batting champion, Matt Beaty. Sledge helped the Drillers set their team home run records in each of the past two seasons and Tulsa won the Texas League pennant this year.

Home run records? Now those are three words I haven’t heard in very long time.

Is Hyde taking anybody from the Cubs to the Orioles staff? Most managers bring guys they have a history with for at least some of the roles.

I have MLBN on quite a bit in the background during the day while I work. DeDosa is on a lot. I don’t know why he has a perception around him of being a coaching candidate in waiting. He says the dumbest horsefeathers. Like he seems like he’d get along with guys fine and seems like a fun and normal dude he just seems like an idiot whenever he’s talking baseball.

Pretty sure it's the fact that he went to Penn, so assumed to be smart (hi trump!) and can speak on camera, so assumed to be poised.

If I was to make a guess, I would guess that it would be Baldelli.

Of course, with a new PC (Hottovy) who's inexperienced I'd rather see them get someone more familiar with pitching as well as the analytics of managing.

My personal choice would be Brian Bannister as BC with the potential of becoming HC once Maddon's contract expires.

Not real sure why we'd rejoice Ross passing on the bench coach job, but whatever.
