Vic's Got Gigantic Teeth.....And He Can Hit!
Ol' "Teeth" needs to be in the line up more. He's been hitting and getting on base. Spell Willson once or twice a week. Stick him at 3rd or maybe 1st on occasion. And maybe put him in LF against tough lefties to spell Schwarbs.
He was a second rounder from an organization that has a pretty good track record of scouting/developing talent. I know it doesn't mean much, but it does mean Atlanta thought the guy had talent. He's getting on base, so I say - ride him out until he plays himself out of the line up (if that even happens). No, I'm not suggesting he play every day. But I certainly think a couple times a week minimum would be a good start.

Would it make sense to offer him the Bote contract?

VC had a .620 career OPS entering this season and the Cubs have 4 more years of team control. I think they can wait a bit to see how real this offensive surge is before discussing an extension.

I wouldn’t mind reading that he’s been taking fly balls in the outfield.

with Caratini hitting like he is, we might have the best 1-2 catcher tandem in the league. Does he have trade value?

Agreed; Contreras doing that makes MUCH more sense.

I keep checking his numbers and I’m like, nice, and then I see he still has like 50 ABs and I get bummed

I’d say this thread isn’t aging well, but it really hasn’t even begun to age at all and it’s pretty clear it’s very WRONG!

Didn’t see the game or any highlights yet. But after reading the gam thread, seems like this deserves a bump.

Re: Vic's Got Gigantic Teeth.....And He Can Hit!
Stealing this from another thread because it pretty good info, especially the highlighted:
Deeg wrote:I can see a case for trading Contreras and keeping Bryant. Caratini has made remarkable progress as a receiver (he's ranked 18th of 104 catchers in framing this season - Willson is 97th). Darvish is a notoriously difficult guy to catch, and he's obviously developed a rapport with slick Vic. Caratini will never be Contreras when it comes to throwing out base stealers, and probably never with the bat either. But I think the body of evidence is he'll be an above-average hitter for the position, and possibly above-average overall defensively. Amaya has star potential, albeit 2-3 years down the road. If you could get a big enough haul for Contreras and decide to do a major remaking of the roster, you'd have to consider it.
