Len mentioned something...I think it was something about him having a really high slugging and really low OBP.

Think the Yankees would trade us Gleyber for him? :(

And I love Javy but he's been seriously butt at the plate for a good month now. Needs a little refocusing.

He’s literally driven in more runs than anyone in the National League.

this is a pretty weak take; he's seen 4th-most baserunners in the league and has 84 wRC+ split to show for it

I hate RBI. I was just making a simple point.

He is what he is: he's an incredibly annoying hitter at times -- and easy to expose with pitchers that can execute in key situations -- that is going to give you around an .800 OPS, great baserunning, and great defense in the middle infield. You're looking at a likely 2.5 to 3-WAR player at the end of the year that leaves you wanting a lot more (because it's in there, as we've seen), but it's still a valuable player.

I just don't really ever understand the complaining about him unless people think he's going to magically change. I prefer to enjoy his strengths and appreciate his overall value.

It's about to be July, and in the next few days Javy should become the most valuable player on the team per fWAR, unless Willson goes on a tear that eclipses Javy's. The inmates are running the asylum.

Since negative stuff still gets brought up from time to time on Javy, usually during the middle of a cold streak.....

i have a three stages of javy opinions that i continuously cycle through

- he'll never have an interest in patience, and will always make a ton of outs even at his best. trade him while he still has a lot of value

- just between the defensive talent and power, he's basically a lock to to be a 2-3 win player every year, with the upside for more in seasons where he gets hot. we probably won't get enough in return to justify trading him, but he's not untouchable.

- he is a star in every facet of the game. i am infatuated with this player. never ever trade him.

The idea of Javy playing for another team is really depressing. I love despite all of his giant warts

I absolutely love Javy, warts and all. I just can’t imagine him in another uniform and don’t want to.

The parallel I draw with Javy is with Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky got a lot of credit for knowing “situational awareness.” The color commentators always said Gretzky knew where he and everyone else was on the ice. Gretzky understood the moment in time when the game could pivot on where he positioned himself and the puck. He simply understood hockey.

Javy understands baseball. IMO, his “situational awareness” is phenomenal. His bunt single in the last game against the Dodgers is his latest example: Goeddel was getting slapped around pretty good by the Cubs. Young Javy would have swung at anything in the nearest area code. Instead he lays down a beautiful bunt single. Two batters later he’s coasting home on Rizzo’s double.

Just plain smart baseball.

Javy would need to hit roughly 140 home runs a year to be Gretzky.
