Baez in the home run derby seems like asking for 3 swings and misses and like 5 laser beams that nearly go through the outfield wall instead of over it.

Schwarber in the home run derby on the other hand...

Best part of javy in the derby is it wouldn't mess up his swing.

Oh, how wrong you are my friend...

You clearly don't remember what his swing was like when he first came up do you?

You guys act like these players dont have their own home run derbys in spring training or in their home countries in offseason or BP or whatever and this is the only time Javy would ever try to swing hard

With the 2nd half gauntlet schedule, one less extra off day over the break and 5 vs the Cardinals out of the break I hope none of our guys are in the ASG or festivities

I mean, rationally you're right. Javy's definitely been nursing some bumps and bruises too..he seems like he's always wincing after making one play or another. So he could probably use the days off.

But that doesn't stop me from wanting to see him up there swinging away.

Yup. I want Javy in the All-Star game, but I want everyone else to get some rest. Thought KB was a lock at the beginning of the year. Honestly, I wish the all-star break was a little longer, but it's not possible with the current 162 game schedule.

Yeah I blew it out of proportion but there was a post saying it was "a back injury waiting to happen" and another right above mine that was suggesting it would mess up his swing and it was just my way of saying Im cool with any of our players participating in a HR derby, injuries and screwed up swing myths bedamned

Don't look now, but Javy is leading the team in fWAR, with 2.8.

If you had told me a couple seasons ago that Javy would be leading the team in fWAR at the halfway point while still sporting a walk rate below 4% and still striking out more than 25% of the time, I would not have been very rosy about the Cubs playoff odds. But fangraphs has us over 95% to make the playoffs right now.

One of the underrated things about Javy is that he gave himself his own nickname and it's actually perfect -- possibly the only self-bestowed nickname besides He Hate Me to actually stick. El Mago can do it all.

The best part of that swim slide is that the catcher knew it was coming and tried to tag the back arm.
