Career high in O-zone (outside of the zone) swing % at 48.7%, which is second in baseball (Sal Perez in first, Almora is in 8th), so probably more perception than reality. His zone swing % is way up though, at 80.4% (career 70.7%), so maybe it's more a matter of not letting good pitches go by. Third in baseball for that, behind Freeman and Albies.

Looking at pitch types, he's murdering fastballs, but he's been a plus against them for the last few years. The big change seems to be against curveballs, had never been a positive pitch for him and now he's killing those too. To your point, maybe there have been less swings on curves that bounce in front of the plate.

I haven't looked at the numbers, but just from watching, it seems like sliders down and away out of the zone are still a trouble spot for him.

I do love the fact that everyone just assumed that if Javy were to unlock superstar potential it would be because he developed some semblance of patience and started taking some walks and the answer was actually that he needed to be more Javy.

what's great here is even in the sample you're excluding he still slugged .562 on a 42 HR, 137 RBI, 23 SB (10 UIBB) pace

They gave Javy a Caught Stealing on that play last night.

I don’t know. The pitcher wasn’t paying attention and Javy got a great jump. The third baseman was 30 feet or so from the base when Javy started running. If the pitcher had waited to throw until the third baseman got to the bag, it would have been a really close play. If the third baseman had stopped running to catch the ball the pitcher threw, Javy might have run right past him. Of course the pitcher’s throw went into left field and the point is moot.

I think a lot of the “risky” stuff Javy does on the basepaths is a lot more calculated than people give him credit for.

No it wasn't. He was picked off and an error caused him to be safe and advance.

I wonder how that goes for advanced stats like BsR and stuff like that....his numbers should improve and he shouldn't be punished for that, IMO

the reason for the error was the pitcher throwing to a moving target. giving him a caught stealing is stupid

All of his slides are spectacular, but this one reached a new level even for Baez. It's crazy watching it even in slow motion.

D. Lee should've won the MVP that season as well. That season was maybe the single best offensive performance I've seen from a Cubs' player. He was so locked in and had so many clutch hits.
