That the new grip that makes his curveball better, might be the type of thing that makes him more injured-er. Meant as a joke, im sure. A scary, scary joke.

The human elbow was not designed for the kind of torque that produces high spin rates.

Hendricks was hitting 90+ MPH in his last ST according to Cubs Insider. That’s very encouraging and it appears he’s overcome the 75 MPH fastball Duke Curse.

That’s a nice 90 mph fastball you have there, it would be a shame if someone were to... write an article about it.

That curveball definitely looks a little more tight that the older, “loopier,” one he use to throw.

Wow, that curveball looks a lot better in that clip. Definitely tighter like you said. I bet he could get a lot of strike three calls with that pitch.

The curveball revolution really is coming...

The Athletic has an outstanding article on what's wrong with Kyle. I'm leaning towards dumping my Athletic sub, but they do just enough stuff like this that I haven't yet.

SS: You said earlier that you’re not getting your fastball down in the zone, which is leading to hitters not chasing your changeup. That makes perfect sense, but can you explain in a bit more detail as to how you believe it’s supposed to work and why it’s not working?

Hendricks: Everything works off my fastball. When I’m establishing my fastball at the bottom of the zone and they’re seeing it, I’m getting called strikes right at the bottom, the changeup is coming out right on the same plane. They have to respect it. So that’s when I’m getting swings under the zone, you get chases and bad contact. Right now, I’m not establishing that fastball, so I’m having to throw changeups for strikes earlier in the count to combat it. But then they’re getting a good look at it and they see it down and they take it. So, the swings I’m getting on pitches are all in the zone. So, it’s really hard to get soft contact in the zone against these guys when my stuff’s not moving how I’m wanting it to.

I like The Athletic and think it's worth it. I don't even bother reading the Chicago Tribune anymore. It's important to support journalism in some form and pay for good content.

Obviously, it's way better to own a subscription to the Washington Post, but every bit helps.

EDIT: I want to make clear I no longer read the sports section of the Chicago Tribune. The other sections are fine and I think people should support the Chicago Tribune.

Oh I'm with you on paying for good content. I sub to FG, ESPN, and used to sub to BA (now I just buy the prospect handbook). I just think the Athletic specifically is a questionable value proposition. 90% of Mooney's stuff is doom boner nonsense or boilerplate beat writer stuff. Half of Sharma's is the same. I like the Bears coverage. and love Rosenthal/Stark, but realistically I'm getting like 2 worthwhile articles a week.

I have this weird thing where I always find articles on twitter that I’m dying to read but can’t pull the trigger on a subscription. But a couple of times I did free trials, I randomly couldn’t find very many articles I wanted to read.

I really hope Hendricks gets his due alongside Rizzo, Bryant, Lester, Javy, in 10-15 years when everyone looks back at this Cubs era. None of this happens without him somehow unlocking a god mode changeup and succeeding wildly with a profile that no other pitcher in the big leagues has.
