Sammy Sosa to be on HOF ballot

Postby Banedon » Wed Nov 28, 2012 10:08 am

Bonds, Clemens and Sosa are set to show up on the Hall ballot for the first time, with all sides eager to find out whether drug allegations will block the former stars from reaching the shrine.

Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza and Curt Schilling are certain to be among the other first-time eligibles. Jack Morris, Jeff Bagwell and Tim Raines are the top holdover candidates.

Jeff Morris went on a multi-state kill-rampage in January of 1996.

How many votes/what % did McGwire get? I bet Sosa gets at least half the votes/percentage McGwire had.

Edit: He got 112 votes which was just over 19%. I'd guess Sosa gets around 50-60 votes, so around 10% +/-

seasons with 5+ WAR

Santo: 7
Morris: 1

i'd say he was a little more rightly aggrieved

and you clearly didn't read the "don't belong in the HOF" part

How did Dan Quisenberry pitch 1043.1 Innings and only K 379? Vs. 162 BB.
Cause my life is dope and I do dope [expletive].

[The sound of fastballs] was one of those things that told me my pitches were fast....because I've never heard pitches as loud as mine.

If Clemens and Bonds don't get in, to hell with the whole thing. And induct Shoeless Joe and Charlie Hustle while they're at it. Sports history is full of rogues and scumbag, many of which are in their respective HOF.

Haha, you beat me. If he gets in before any of those 3, I'm not sure the HOF can sink any lower.

Without the steroid allegations, that would have been a great class. Now it's just Biggio (I'm assuming Schilling won't get in on his first try).

If they let in Andre Dawson there's no reason why they wouldn't let in Jack Morris too.

1. If you let in every player better than the worst player in the HOF, you'd have to add 100 guys.

2. Andre Dawson is more deserving than Jack Morris (though he also probably doesn't belong)

Dawson: 61 WAR in 19 seasons
Morris: 38.5 WAR in 17 seasons

(discounting boundary seasons of little significance, for both)

I used Dawson more as an illustration of a player that was good but not great but got in due to the popular belief that he was a lot better than the stats suggest.

The type of person that would vote for Morris knows about only one war, the Spanish American, because he fought in it.

The Hall of Fame sucks.

I mean, I'm sure the museum is awesome because baseball history is great but as far as who goes to the Hall of Fame, it's hard for me to care about that anymore.

But he didn't care about personal stats, he cared about winning. And that's what mattered. Just ask him.

Guess: he'll get around 15-20% the first year.

I think when Bonds gets into the hall, the mindset changes a bit. It will be kind of interesting to see how much the voting changes (if at all) once the king roider of all time gets into the hall.
