Seeing as I'm the first half game-thread All-Star with a 9-1 record, Laura has bestowed upon me the honor of starting the All-Star Game thread.

For the 79th annual All-Star game, the American League will throw a resurgent Cliff Lee

12-2, 2.31 ERA, 1.06 WHIP

vs Godless puppy-kicking communist, Ben Sheets

10-3, 2.85 ERA, 1.11 WHIP

The NL hasn't won since 1996. If this is the year the Cubs win the pennant, I sure hope the NL pulls it out. I'd love for Game 1 of the World Series to be in Wrigley. Imagine the atmosphere!

Go NL and go all Cubs!

The NL lineup is so much better than the AL's it's kind of ridiculous. My favorite is the middle infield comparison. Gotta love the idiots who thought Jeter and Pedroia would be the best guys to start opposite Hanley and Utley. Awesome.

Can the Chicago Cubs defeat the AL?

Tune in tomorrow night to see if they can?

Oh yeah, there are a few non-Cub players worth checking out.

I can't believe I have butterflies before an All-Star Game, but I do. Thanks, Bud.

Yup, so the NL has the advantage the first 3 innings. I'm just worried about a close game in the 8th inning having to deal with Ryan Ludwick and Nate McClouth hitting.

I was thinking about this. If they are going to tie the HFA to something, they should give it to whichever league wins the overall head to head interleague matchups. So if the AL wins 143-111, the AL is the superior league and their WS representative should get HFA. Just a thought...better than tying it to one random game.

Good point but I have to think Jeter will be allowed to suck for at least four, possibly five innings

most of the regular starters will play 5-6 innings

I'm willing to bet Fukudome doesn't make it more than 3-4. Probably Soto too.

From L to R its Geo, Marmol, Wood, Z, ARam, Sori, Fukudome. Dempster is missing because he was warming up in the pen while the photo was taken.

The home field advantage rule pisses me off. If josh hamilton hits a home run off ben sheets, why should that determine if boston or chicago has home field advantage? Baseball is the only sport that does this...so dumb.

Plus that picture is pretty obviously taken at Wrigley Field...

it's obviously from after the home run derby last night, photoshopped to look like it was at Wrigley during the day

I heard that they already tore Yankee Stadium down and the entire season has been played in front of a green screen
