mozeliak publicly questioning dex's effort level...stealing this transcription from GRB

Mike Kelly: How confident are you that he (Fowler) can correct this?

Mo: First, if you were to ask Dex, he'd tell you it's tough when you're not playing. I think most athletes would tell you it's hard to fix if you're not in there, and I think that's the difficult part when you're managing a club, is trying to balance getting someone going and getting production. And for him it's...

A lot of people I think are challenging...cause I've had a lot of people come up to me over the last week or two...and they feel like it's an effort issue.

Mike Kelly (interrupts): Eh, I don't see that.

Mo: And that's what they want to see more of...more aggressiveness, and when you're thinking about contact, hard contact, when you're thinking about going after a ball, being more aggressive. And that's something I certainly want to challenge Dex on getting to, because I feel like he's someone that when we signed him he brought a lot of energy to our club, and right now you're just not seeing that same type and I hope we can get back to that.

Mike Kelly: But is there a difference between effort made and energy displayed?

Mo: I think you could argue that. Again, I feel like part of effort is perception, and what people see and how you're going about it. Dex has been someone that has the ability to maybe make it look a little easier than most, but I don't know if you're seeing that this year.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

Yeah I saw he was going on paternity leave so I did a check to see if he was taking heat with the BFIB for that, and it seems they're just glad he's not going to be on the team.

Some team please save him.

Mo: He just *looks* lazy. It’s similar to the look that makes me keep my hand on my wallet whenever we’re in the same room.

Gee, I can’t believe Jason Heyward didn’t want to re-sign there.

I'd like to think this will lead to the first bench-clearing brawl where a team is doing it to defend someone on the other team.

Rizzo is going to start a fight after the ASB series and we are gonna carry Dex off like Ross in the World Series and take him back and make the Cardinals pay him still.

Theo’s trades for and picked up a lot of players for just about every reason, but to get a guy to get him away from racist, hillbilly, red asses will be a first.

They must have made a breakthrough with their gritty-white-guy formula for the cloning machine in the lab if they care that little about signing free agents in the future.

It’s not a cloning machine, it’s called competitive draft picks.

Yep, they essentially get an extra Brennan Davis every other year.

In other news, the Cards play 17 of their next 20 on the road. Here's a graphical representation of their playoff chances:

I really hope they sell the farm to trade for Machado.

Mozeliak doesn't have the cajones to do that but I'd love to see it to. Actually, I wouldn't mind hearing the BFIBs bitch about coming in 2nd to someone for a star player again.

That's every fan base.

Dude is hitting .171 .276 .278 .554 with -1.2 WAR on July 2.

I think you guys should just DFA him. I'd love to pick him up at the major league minimum with y'all paying the balance.

Dex is definitely getting traded this offseason and maybe Tommy Pham too. I've heard Pham is pretty upset with organization and their fans clearly don't appreciate them.

I doubt the Cardinals will be able to successfully sign/trade for a prominent African-American player for a long time.
