How tf does Hoopeston, home of the mighty Cornjerkers as well as my pubescent memories, have an economy to support a sports memorabilia store. They were barely holding on to a McDonald’s last I remember

Surprisingly there's a huge sport cards following in this area. It's crazy. That store always has someone coming in to do autographs, etc. Last weekend was JSA to do authentications. Mike Montgomery and Chris Coghlan are doing autograph sessions the next 2 weekends iirc. I'm only 30 miles away and I'm seriously thinking of going there Sat to get a ball signed.

If your town has a horsefeathering Casey's General Store, you're not in Chicagoland anymore. This is worse than when comedians say they're coming to Chicago but what they actually mean is the Zanies in St. Charles.

there's a goofy local yokel i friended on facebook because he's always getting into random horsefeathers. he decided one day to "move to chicago," and when he got to "chicago" he posted a facebook live of somewhere that was definitely not chicago. He was like "windy city baby this is better than oklahoma check it out we got a casey's general store, we got a china king."

baby in rural oklahoma you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a casey's general store and a china king.

Hoopeston is literally closer to Indianapolis than Chicago.

Casey’s Pizza is literally the only thing I miss about the Midwest. It is a greasy monstrosity in exactly the best way.

Casey's Pizza is perfect for Iowa, in that it is pizza, and therefore generally a good thing better than many others foods, but completely replacement level and something you only want to utilize when your better pizza is otherwise unavailable for a day or two at a time.

I always thought of Casey's like gourmet frozen pizza, maybe because you're getting pizza at a gas station.

A Google image search displays a seemingly endless sea of the most generic, non-descript pizza you could possibly find. It neither looks good or bad...it's just there.

Boring pizza talk is boring. 1.3, at best.

Annoying people from Chicago by calling parts of Illinois “basically Chicago” is always good fun, though. Just casually, like telling a story about that time you were in “Chicago, well technically Evanston.”

Then work your way out. By the end of the night you refer to Peoria or Springfield as part of Chicagoland and appreciate their eye twitching.

Oh man, the level to which people in Chicago proper get pissed at people who refer to very nearby suburbs as Chicago cracks me up too. Unless you live in the densest parts of downtown, living in the vast majority of Chicago is no different than living in the nearest suburb. It's all spread out houses, car culture galore, it's the same damn thing with no boundary.

This is exactly perfect. And I eat it occasionally because of the monstrosity that is STL style pizza and the fact that there's a Casey's exactly 1.1 miles from my house that's on my route to and from work.

I'm willing to concede that I may hold an opinion of it slightly higher than it deserves because my wife has a hangup about "pizza from a gas station", so I don't get it very often.

My general observations is that anyone who says they’re “from Chicago” doesn’t live within the city limits. Anyone who actually lives within the city limits will say they from “the (North/South/West) side of...” or actually specifies the neighborhood... Lincoln Park, Edgewater or whatever. There’s a similar dynamic in New York City where the actual city dwellers will specify the borough or neighborhood.

The only way that is true is if the question is being asked while being in the city in question.

If you're in some random city, nobody from Lincoln Park is saying they are from Lincoln Park and nobody from Hell's Kitchen is saying they live in Hell's Kitchen.
