Red Sox fire Dombrowski

Postby soccer10k » Mon Sep 09, 2019 4:27 am

I get that they've had a disappointing season but they just had maybe the best season in the history of the franchise and won a title last year. Just seems like a huge overreaction.

That seems really strange with 3 weeks left in the season when he can’t really make any major moves to help/hurt the team anyways. Gotta be more to the story here

Not strange at all. It signals to potential GMs that the Sox are hiring, and lets them get things started well before the off season.

Could we see Jed Hoyer heading to Boston?

No idea. I’m sure they’ll look at the Gms from Minnesota, maybe Arizona or Houston....people with somewhat recent success.

If they wanted to go back to that era, I'd think it'd be Josh Byrnes.

Sounds good to me if we get compensation.

So Jed can wear it or Theo? I’m open to either.

I'm still not convinced Jed actually does anything or has anything to do with anything, so Theo.

McLeod was listed on MLB.com among 17 speculative candidates. He like the rest of the FO mysteriously lost his luster after the system peaked in 2015 and the WS win in 2016, infinite sports years ago, but this would be a loss. A loss they can quickly recover from because of his work since that peak: a loaded 2015 IFA class is about to starting reaching AA next year and the year after and Gallardo's looking pretty serious just behind them, but still a loss. I think losing some FO guys is going to be a part of this offseason shakeup that may or may not happen, and he seems like the most likely with most of this org's non-owner problems being at the ML level at this point and the farm system set to break out

Agreed. It would make more sense coming from an organization, like, say, the Cubs.

Fired because they didn't think he'd be the best guy to get them under the luxury tax.

[extremely rob manfred voice] it is the pace of play that is turning fans off the sport, not owners who are perfectly content to lose rather than pay players fair market value
