Don't know what we'll do with Rizzo & Bryant with David Kelton & Brian Dopirak brewing in the minors.

Baseball Prospectus just dropped an Albert Pujols comp on Brendan Harris

Maybe Josh Vitters will take Schwarber's OF spot if Schwarber still can't hit.

That is not a good look. I feel bad for him, but then again some team would've traded for him if he was a better player. He's just not that valuable anymore.

Remember when he was supposed to be a comparable or perhaps better value than Bryce Harper?

yes yes yes, im pretty sure it was sneaky, that poor bastard

hahahahahah i found it

this thread is a trash fire

The only reason I remembered it was sneaky was because there was some other thread where he kept dismissing Trout's upside as Cesar Cedeno. Like normally you'd take a 50-war comparison as an upside, except trout has already eclipsed that total in 950 games (compared to Cedeno's 2000+)

I'm very impressed that people remember these old threads. How the hell...

Awww, I thought it was going to be the crazy "Cedeno is the next Jeter" talk that I don't think was actually a thing.

And I'm pretty sure the only reason I didn't post anything dumb in that thread was that I was very confused as to why everyone was getting so heated over Mike Carp.

I think there was another thread where the Castro/Harper value thing came up again. I think it was 2014 when Starlin was having a bounceback year and Harper was kinda crappy.

The love for Starlin wasn't unwarranted. He was putting up 3 WAR seasons at 22 and was racking up hits as a SS with good raw defensive tools (albeit real flaws, as well). There was a not-that-unreasonable belief that he'd get close to 1,000 hits before turning 25, which would have been pretty exceptional -- counting stats be damned.

Unfortunately, he forgot how to play baseball, remembered briefly, then forgot again forever.

During a "Not For Women Only" panel discussion, former Cubs pitcher Mike Bielecki asked several players to invent a baseball catch phrase for Viagra. Theriot's ad campaign: "Viagra -- I always play hard."

I don't like calling out specific posts/threads, I think it's more fun in an "lol aren't we all dumb when we look back five years" sort of vibe. But that's the one I'm thinking of. I remember there being a chart with Harper vs. Castro surplus value comparison.

Edit: Alright fine fun starts here.

I'll even break my "no calling out specific posters" preference to point out that bukie wanted extra prospects thrown in on top of Kershaw to get Castro, only because bukie's always been kind of a dick.

God, that seems like horsefeathering forever ago.

ETA: Castro+Baez+Almora/Soler for Harper would still be a bad trade for the Cubs, but it's not an immediate no.

Good old hindsight. I don't thinl it's an unreasonable position to not be willing to trade a 22 year old all-star SS on a team-friendly deal for any pitcher straight up, particularly where his prpjections were at the time.

Still thinl they traded him for pennies on the dollar, and felt he's gotten a raw deal for the timing of his career (similar to Heyward).

And if calling you out repeatedly for your tired contrarian inane horsefeathers over the early Theo years is "being a dick", then, guilty as charged, I guess? You kind of earned it though.

When the Texas League stops propping up Trout's numbers, we'll finally see him for what he really is

Brooks Kieshnick might yet have 20 HRs and 20 saves in the same season.

I’ll see your Brooks Kieshnick and raise you an Andy Sisco. I was obsessed with his upside.

Ironically, one of the only good prospects from that long drought of badness was Jon Garland, who we traded away for Matt horsefeathering Karchner

I’m on my phone so I can’t get into the whole spiel, but that era of the Cubs farm system was above average at producing prospects who would turn into major leaguers. As you mentioned, Ed Lynch squandered a good chunk of them.

Jim Hendry was a mediocre GM who got left behind when the game smartened up and looks like dog poop next to Epstein. Lynch was actually legit awful.
