his name is tripp gibson the third, which means there's probably about a 98% chance he's a giant d-bag.

Never forget Phil Cuzzi. He was the plate umpire for the no hitter by Hamels, both of the losses by Jake after May 17, 2015, the hack job that was Game 1 of the NLDS and the only umpire to ever eject Miguel Montero (catcher of 8000+ innings and batter of 4000+ plate appearances).

CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez should be in any "worst" conversation.

In the Astros at Cleveland game today a foul ball was called a wild pitch, which allowed 2 runs to score as the catcher was confused/complaining about the call. No review.

Thanks for sharing. That was very interesting. What was interesting to me and not discussed in his write up was the differences are much more pronounced against RHB than LHB.

He was talking to Willson after the game, presumably finishing the conversation they had in the 9th. Willson probably let him know he missed a call or 2. I'd like to hear if that one went as smoothly as the Rizzo/Angel talk last night.

I didn't want to start a new thread, because I figured there had to be one, but this is not just about bad umps, it's about a general trend of terrible umpiring that is getting worse all the time. It is more and more obvious that strike zones are inconsistent and seem to favor some teams over others, or pitchers, or whatever. It's impossible to know what a strike is!

Add to that other bad calls... obvious calls that have to be overturned by replay... and then calls that get overturned on the field only to have "inconclusive" reviews result in overturns of the original call because it's inconclusive? What is going on here?

The technology exists to remove the human element form baseball umpiring entirely. Even if you don't want to do the strike zone (arguably the most important thing, but whatever), it is ridiculous that a ball cannot be called conclusively fair or foul without any human element involved. This is a fact of physics, and in fact easily determined as long as you have cameras AT THE RIGHT ANGLES. Something that has always been lacking for NO REASON since video cameras have existed...

I don't understand it.

As much as I want auto umps and 100% accuracy on balls and strikes, wouldn't that pretty much kill a pitcher, like, Hendricks, for example, by forcing him to catch more plate? Take away those nebulous edges and those finesse pitchers would become extinct, it seems to me. I go back and forth on it. I also love when a catcher can steal strikes, and that wouldn't even be necessary anymore with auto zone tech.
