Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

Abbott goes 6 2 0 0 2 11. He's at 95 pitches, so I'm guessing he's done.

It's early yet, but Cory Abbott is looking like the best 2nd round pick of the Theo/Jed era thus far. Unfortunately, that's not saying much.

2012 - Duane Underwood
Still just 23 years old, he has battled injuries, poor conditioning, work ethic issues and some mental weakness. He appears to have matured beyond most, if not all, of those issues. While holding his own in Iowa, he's been inconsistent allowing 4 or more earned runs in 3 of his 8 games.

2013 - Rob Zastryzny
The only one of these picks to have made the bigs where he's been decidedly average in minimal exposure with a 1.45 WHIP and a 4.06 ERA in 31 IP. He's put up an ERA of 5.94 in AAA last year and currently stands at 5.19 this year.

2014 - Jake Stinnett
A reliever for 2.5 years in college, Jake struggled badly as a starter in his pro career. He transitioned to reliever after sustaining an injury last year. He's walked 10 with 11 Ks in 10.1 IP so far this season in AA.

2015 - Donnie Dewees
Traded for Alec Mills in the 2016 off season, Dewees continues to be underwhelming for Kansas City hitting .268/.318/.363 as a 24-year-old repeating AA.

2016 - No pick

Abbott put up his best start of the year tonight going 6 scoreless, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks against 11 strikeouts. He's only had one really bad start out of 7 to begin the season. He's now thrown 36.1 innings allowing 27 hits, walking 10 and striking out 44 for a WHIP of 1.02 and an ERA of 2.72. On the downside he's given up 5 HRs, but 3 of them came in his 1 bad start.

He's 22 years old and will be all season. If he keeps pitching this well, we can expect him to see Myrtle Beach this season where he'd be age appropriate especially for a college draftee.

Hatch is appearing sharp through 4

Adbert slapped around for 4 runs on 9 hits in four+ innings against Omaha

Stinnett was only a reliever his first 2.5 season in college (and he was primarily an infielder his first two seasons). He become a starter midway into his junior year and all of his senior year. He famously outdueled Carlos Rodon his senior year, the year Rodon went third overall.

Wow. Multiple good pitching performances in the same night. Not sure we’ve had that yet.

It's hard for me to get excited about any good pitching performances in our system thinking that there likely isn't anything better than a BOR starter among the lot of them. I wish I could think differently about the talent (or lack thereof), but I just can't. I hope to be proven wrong.

After starting the year in a terrible slump (.151.279/.192 with 27 Ks in 73 AB), it's fair to say Charcer Burks has turned it around. In 67 May at bats, he's hitting .343/.436/.507 with 10 walks and 18 Ks. The strikeouts are still a bit high but his K-rate is falling as the month continues. He K'd 8 times in his first 27 AB and 10 times in his last 40.

They'll need them a few years from now when Chatwood and Lester become FAs/retire (I hope Kyle is inked to a long-term contract).

There's a safety in numbers approach with all the safer lower ceiling/lower risk pitchers they've gone after in the draft and trading for Mills (excluding Hudson and Little).

Ah, that's right. Forgot about his senior year. I think I read a report on him leading up to the draft that year that mentioned he had a save against Virginia (or somebody like that) and that stuck in my head. Thanks, Navin.

Point still stands, though. He's been a disappointment as a 2nd rounder...

Definitely a disappointment, especially because it was well known before that draft that they coveted Jack Flaherty and were hoping he'd fall to their second round pick.

Cardinals probably hacked into the Cubs database...

A friend who went to the Myrtle Beach game swore to me that Swarmer hit 95/96 on that gun (said it was the 3rd or 4th inning).
