I missed this signing along the way, but the Chris Coghlan is leading off for Iowa.

He’s been signed for a while but I think either has been hurt or not playing a lot

Good for the White Sox, though. Adding Drew Pomeranz and Nomar Mazara should help them win 70 games sometime in the near future.

Eddy Martinez hit his 10th HR to get Tennessee on the board. His flyball tendencies, game power, patience, improved contact rates, and a lack of game reps entering pro ball all will probably keep him on radar next year in the PCL. That league might be friendly towards he and/or Short next year if they're around.

He’s played in 73 games this year. That’s a bad take. As is the second part. There is this thing called the DH in the AL. If his defense gets to the point that it is a negative, they can just put him there and take advantage of that ridiculous bat.

Edit: unless you were being sarcastic and I just missed it

I wasn’t. I want to say he’s hit the DL 3 or 4 times this year and you really have to hit as a DH (which I believe he is) to have much value. Only 3 qualified guys over 2 WAR last year at DH and none over 3. He literally needs to be JD Martinez, peak Nelson Cruz, etc to be more than a 2-3 WAR player at DH. Which that’s fine, just his bat really needs to play for him to carry value.

That’s a combination of the Sox being overly cautious with their stud prospect and the minors having a short 7 day DL stay.

And of course he has to hit to have value. But is there any doubt that he will at this point? David Ortiz was only a 3 Win player while rocking a 150 wRC+ at DH, but is anyone going to debate how he positively impacted every game he played? And that’s completely writing Eloy off in the field, which is premature. His bat absolutely has 150 wRC+ ability.

There’s 11 qualified batters at 150+ right now, there were 7 last year. That’s an incredibly high threshold in this environment.

Big day for Eddy to bring his slash line up from .219/.271/.363.

BTW: I still believe Isaac Paredes will be the best of the prospects traded so far. He hit a grand slam tonight in AA, where he's hitting .500 through ~30 PAs.

For sure. But that’s why Eloy’s bat is so special. There aren’t many guys who have the ability to hit like he does.

He hit a single to break up the hitless streak but he did add another K. I believe that gives him more K's than BBs now.

That's a bit much, but I think he definitely hurts more than Candelario in that same deal. Always felt that way.

this is really hard for me to get on board with given gleyber's debut, but i'm a believer in paredes (in large part thanks to you), and was just looking at his stats the other day. he's gonna be a really nice player.

Appreciated!

-----

Short's 2/3 so far with a couple doubles.

Delvin Zinn is hitting a very empty .286 for SB after going 3/3. He's only K'd 14 times in ~100 PAs which is a big improvement in that area. He's also got a 1.18 GO/AO so he's not allergic to putting the ball in the air. :shrugs:

Jose Gutierrez picked up another double in 3 PAs (1 K) filling in for the now active DJ Wilson. Keep him up there!
