I'm optimistic about Johnson in relief, myself. Last year was his first ineffective year, so if that turned out to be flukey anti-career year, that wouldn't be implausible. Not sure working on his 3rd and 4th pitches over the years has really helped that much. If he just lives on his fastball and his breaking pitch, he could rack up a lot of K's, and might walk a lot fewer without throwing his change and 4th pitch for balls.

Obviously a season with health could also be a game-changer for him.

He said Bosio had suggested a correction and that it's clicked and helped a lot. Sometimes it doesn't take much of an adjustment to help a pitcher, and Bosio has a good record.

Would be a cool story if he found some success. With options, would be fun to have a yo-yo guy with some decent stuff.

Reading through Black's tweets, it looks like Carson Sands also had surgery.

Mentioned on the previous page. It's a bone spur in his elbow, do not as bad as TJS.

Looks like Amaya, Ademan, Sierra, and Gutierrez are solid bets to be stateside this year

Good observation. They and a bunch of other Latin kids are the South bend level, which frequently end up going to XST and staying state-side. At least if they look OK and competitive.

Wtf @ their way of writing innings

68 0/100. Really horsefeathering weird.

But exciting stuff nonetheless.

Best case scenario for Cease is what? Start 2017 at Low-A, with a promotion to High-A? Then 2018 make it to Tennessee? 2019 big jump to MLB?

Yeah, that's probably best case. They have to build his innings up too. So, they've got to be careful with him.

I guess if he's really dominant, I could potentially see him being brought to the majors in Sept 2018, to use as a weapon out of the pen for that postseason.....

Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

He needs to throw strikes and go as deep as he can into games (and stay healthy...) and I'm sure they'll move him along at that pace. If he struggles with command it could be a bit more gradual.

Cease in MLB in 2019 is like the < 1% best case scenario, the odds have him getting through 4 levels in less than 3 years are extremely low.

Adding more fun to this is that year 4 makes it 6 years since the first TJ

From AZ Phil:
Very encouraging outing for Eddie Butler Saturday at Sloan Park versus Rockies.

Six up & six down via weak contact (6-3, 4-3, 4-3, 4-3, 4-3, F-7), threw strikes, outstanding FB command. four seamer consistently 95 (touched 96), two-seamer at 91-93 induced most of the grounders, slider & change-up both 86-88 (albeit with so-so command), and dropped a couple of nice curves at 80-81.

Had to feel good for him to pitch like that against his former team.

Lol our front office is like playing some way more advanced game while some play chess and others play checkers.

Please never leave Theo Epstein.

Eloy is going to be such a beast. I'll be following him with the same fervor that I was for Bryant, Schwarber, et al.

And I have high hopes for Butler. I know I shouldn't. I know it's not realistic to expect us to Arrieta whoever we want. But I really liked that pick up. Hopefully we keep seeing more of that from him.

To be fair, Butler threw the 8th and 9th against minor league fodder. Still nice to see though, and since he's ticketed for Iowa regardless, we don't have to focus as much on results, which is nice because the process(heavy 95 mph, ground balls galore) looks good too.

And yes, Eloy is going to be an impact player, and that is awesome.

Callis with a Q&A with Cease

I didn't realize that the velo post TJS was a surprise. He was "only" hitting around 94 at the 2013 under armor game.

It looks like pre-draft he had at least touched 97-98:

But the consistency that he's hit 98-100 as a pro is a combination of surprise and him getting proper instruction to get more out of his body.
