Alcantara with a great throw to nail a runner at the plate, good stuff

Tonight's strike zone was a joke, I'm pro human umps and it was a bit egregious, but most important is that Gallardo's now through 250+ BF and we've got some big gains in key areas I pointed out in preseason: pulled contact (nearly 10%!!!!), HR/FB (from double digits to single), K rate, and velocity. You’ve got some time as this guy is a slow burn, I say the realest breakout is anywhere from 1-4 years away assuming health, but there's a burgeoning power game now…26% K rate over the past 61 BF too

James Triantos is 4 for his last 39, one hell of a cold streak right now

Pinango 4/4 and getting a start in CF...Nice, quality first half from him

Made's got 3 hits. I don't buy that 13% BB rate but could believe 6% (he's got 27 in 402 PAs at the level) and that he's a much improved player from last year all around

I think Perlaza is my top "gut feel" guy in the system. The scouting reports don't like him much, and aside from walks there's not any statistical stuff about him that really wows you. And as a mediocre defensive corner outfielder, you generally need some black ink on your stat page.

But his swings are very aesthetically pleasing (especially lefty), and the combination of offensive skills (pretty good power, average contact, plus patience, low groundball rate) is the sort of thing that tends to sneak up on you with how productive it is. I also like that he's a switch hitter who is actually fairly comparable from both sides of the plate. I think if the juiced ball was still around I'd be banging this drum a lot more, while now it's going to remain more measured. But I'd like to see him get a shot at some point.

Electric outing for ACL Cubs top pitching prospect RHP (ex-SS) Michael Arias at Sloan Park Tuesday night, with a high velo 95-98 FB / 87-90 wipeout SL combo that produced broken bats and swings & misses.

He also is trying to mix-in a mid-80's CH and a 70's CV, but they are strictly pipe dreams right now and are probably best left in the pitch lab.

Arias missed about three weeks during EXST after suffering a lower body injury while coming off the mound to cover home plate after a bases-loaded WP so he has been brought along slowly in ACL games. He also had a blister issue during EXST, but he looks to be 100% healthy right now.

Another power arm that is looking good in ACL games is RHRP Gregori Montano, who had all kinds of difficulty throwing his 94-97 MPH FB for strikes in EXST games, but is now pumping regular gas into the strike zone. His secondary pitch is a 79-82 MPH slurvy breaking ball, but at least he is finally starting to command that pitch, too.

The best long-term SP prospect at ACL Cubs is probably RHP Kenyi Perez, who features a three pitch mix (93-96 FB, 83-85 CH, and a 83-86 SL), and the stamina to maIntain his FB velo and the high spin rate on his SL into multiple innings of work. Command and throwing too many pitches-per-inning remain problems for K. Perez, however.
