It's temporary because I'm interested in seeing whether this new delivery is really such a difference maker, but I'm actually much more interested in it being Ryan Jensen day than DJ Herz day.

Actually between Jensen and Roederer both of my top two storylines are at Tenn right now.

Out of 178 qualified hitters in High A this year, only 24 of them are in their age 20 or younger seasons. Yohendrick Pinango has been the 9th best hitter among that group, while Owen Caissie has been 11th

Only 2 guys in their age 19 or younger seasons are qualified, and Caissie is 2nd of those two

DJ Herz racked up 10 Ks in 4.2 scoreless.

PCA leading off, down to a .175 batting average and .600 OPS in 40 high-A AB.

Ryan Jensen 2.0 with another strong outing. 3 scoreless with one walk and two strikeouts.

While the control is clearly much improved, the strikeouts and groundballs are down since he came back. Hopefully that's just him getting used to the new delivery, and not a permanent tradeoff. I'm happy to trade one of those for the control gains, but not necessarily both.

Mervis dong, also has a double. Tripled to deep center the other day too. Man's on a mission.

Maybe he's still adjusting but neither of Jensen's offspeeds are standing out since coming off the development list. It's a big part of why he's not striking hitters out despite a fastball that gets whiffs in the zone

----

Starting to see what I guess might be a very young Wave of pitching in the system starting to form. Freilyn Silverino threw well yesterday, Michael Arias had one of his better outings this week, Gonzalez and Oquendo have kind of become the go-to guys at MB, and 20 YO LHP Marino DeSanty's been throwing well starting games in the ACL including 3 innings today. AZPhil wrote this about Santy in April:

Marino Santy was dominiant in his three innings, allowing just the one hit and the one run, while issuing no walks and striking out three. The little lefty has a true starting pitcher's repertoire, featuring a 93-96 MPH FB, an 84-85 MPH CH, and a 78-81 MPH CV that he mixes with good effect.

There's also injured 21 YO Andricson Salvador, another lefty who has thrown some decent enough ball and might be throwing pretty hard next year if things go well enough, Kenyi Perez has been throwing well and probably throws hard, Drew Gray's got a high ceiling...

----

I agree on Roederer being an interesting situation. He and Morel are possibly maybe kind of demonstrating the Value and more dynamic grown potential playing excellent defense as a youth offers. My guess is it speaks to good fundamentals, twitchy athleticism, and lots of experience - things the post-Covid landscape probably is really into. Roederer's maybe most known for an explosive pro debut in the ACL, he was actually ranked over Davis entering 2019, but 2019 as the champion SB club's starting CF showed a much more well rounded skillset beyond pull side power. He's been a more pandemic proof prospect since, a glove and slug kind of guy who can play the outfield and have a quality enough approach and some power. He's not really hitting for power in AA yet, but if/when he does start doing that along with these other good things on offense (contact, patience, gets the ball in the air)...I'm dreaming of a top 2024 team with a homegrown *bench* of young players who can grow into starter FA contracts (and picks) or contribute to trades for higher level players or top prospects (Ravens/Steelers stuff?)...Healthy amount of words for 11:33 PM on a perfect weather June night

Opponents have a .467 OPS against Herz this year.

I mentioned Crook in the minor league musings thread, it should be noted that he has started the last 2 games at 1B.
