Eliecer Bonne has signed with the Cubs, according to AZPhil. He's a 24 year old Cuban, that plays the OF. AZPhil calls him Del Valle, Silva, Cabezas, and Serrano second tier prospects, not roster filler. I have also seen his name as Eliecer Bonne Reyes, and have seen his age listed as 21, and 22 as well. So who knows? But, we did sign him.

Bonne's birthday evidently is 2/17/87 and I guess confirmation that he's signed is the fact he's now played 4 games for our DSL2 team already. Kind of odd he's down there and not in Arizona(visa issues?) considering he's thought of to be more than a Smaily Borges type guy anyway.......

I've only been posting players whose bonuses have been released.

I put this in the wrong thread. Two more international players signed with the Cubs - Venezuelan catcher Mark Malave and Venezuelan third baseman Ricardo Marcano according to BA

Has Enrique Acosta played anywhere this year? minorleaguebaseball.com doesn't list him as being on any team. Same question for Malave.

Video of Acosta:

To have an opinion at all on it: For 16 year old he's got a decent looking swing.

Cubs sign Curacuo lefty Christian Pieters, 16. Phil Rogers said it was $350.

From BA

Quote:
The Cubs have signed a pair of Cuban prospects, outfielder Yasiel Balaguert and righthander Carlos Martinez.

(Update, Jan. 11: Balaguert signed for $400,000 and Martinez signed for $250,000.)

Here is the refresher:

Is this guy interesting at all? Looks like he's 5 for his last 6 with a walk after going 9 for 22 over 5 games in late April. .297/.375/.396 does have some positives, but the XBH just aren't there. And that matches up almost perfectly with his brief career stats at AZ and Boise. Looks like he's played a fair amount of both LF and CF and has hit leadoff, 2 and 9. He turns 21 this summer.

edit: I asked this in early May and now I take a look at his numbers again and he's had a pathetic month. Maybe he's not interesting.

Frandy Do La Rosa signed for $700K
http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/07/cubs-sign-no-19-international-prospect-frandy-de-la-rosa/

BA wrote:
19. Frandy de la Rosa, ss, Dominican Republic
Ht.: 6-1. Wt.: 180. B-T: B-R.

De la Rosa is a 16-year-old who lives in Boca Chica, plays in the Dominican Prospect League and trains with Valentin Monero. Like many players at the bottom of the Top 20 and below, de la Rosa does a few things that scouts like but brings question marks. Scouts like his ability to handle the bat as a switch-hitter. He has a simple, short swing and quick hands at the plate and has shown he can barrel balls up, but he's more of a line-drive hitter than much of a power threat right now.

His tools beyond the bat aren't as flashy. He's not quite an average runner and he doesn't have the range or arm for shortstop, though he's made strides with his arm and hands. Teams who like him see a potential offensive-oriented second baseman, but where he ends up playing in the field remains to be seen. The Cubs have been the team most prominently linked to de la Rosa, though the Astros and White Sox are also believed to have interest.

Juan Carlos Paniagua signed for $1.5M. Sounds like he has some "history".

So Luiz Gohara is now eligible to be signed. Cubs were in on him at one point according to Badler.

I doubt we've got enough money left to sign him. Seattle was big on him and hasn't spent much yet at all. Texas has all their money left too.

Mariners are supposed to be the huge favorite, but a boy can dream.
