What's the story on Beeler? I see he did really well up through A+ but the K and BB rates took a hit once he got to AA and he's spending his 3rd season there. Any reason for optimism with him? Potential pen arm?

Pierce Johnson gives up a 2 run homer. Already down 3-0 in the first.

Pierce ad a bit of a rough outing, but as seems to be his thing, kept his peripherals solid.

6 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 6 K, 11/2 GO/FO.

If that qualifies as a rough outing, I'd like to see a few more of our pitching prospects have rough outings on a regular basis.

Rough by his standards, I should say.

I knew what you meant, it was more hoping the rest of our pitching prospects would suck a little less. That isn't as good as he's been but you hit the nail on the head with the peripherals. Nothing wrong with those at all.

The 17th is the home opener, but they are starting their season on the 13th in Eugene. Hmm...I may take a long weekend and visit Eugene so that I can catch the series. It is a nice way tio start a Summer vacation.

Is a midseason promotion out of the question for Johnson?

I imagine a June or July promotion to Daytona is very likely.

Why, do the Cubs want to rest his arm after May?

Indeed. It's been legitimately just how steady his have been so far this year. Here's hoping Maples and Co. do their best to follow suit.

The VSL Cubs season is off to a rousing start with a 22-11 loss to the Rays. Man, Andrew Friedman's good...

Looks like your best bet is one of the hitters. ;)

Unless there was a pitcher to manage getting through an inning unscathed.

A tad surprising that Roney Alcala didn't make it stateside, at least for EXST, he put up very solid stats anyway as an 18 year old in 2012.

The past 10 days, Christian Villanueva has quietly put up a .324/.385/.441 line.
