Vote for #3 Prospect

Postby Tim » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:59 pm

Please vote for the Cubs #3 prospect (serious votes only, please!). Please post your rationale below.

If someone convinces you that someone else should be higher, please feel free to change your vote anytime between now and Thursday.

Also, since the overall discussion thread points towards there being three realistic candidates for each of the next three spots, I'm only allowing one vote at a time right now. As we get to #5 and later, I'll allow multiple choices per vote.

Results so far:

#1: Javier Baez
#2: Jorge Soler

Please vote for the Cubs #2 prospect (serious votes only, please!).

I can't vote for the #2 prospect here. It's only letting me vote for the #3 prospect.

Also, the only other prospect than Almora I could think about voting for here is Viscaino.

I could see someone being convinced that Vogelbach could become a Fielder-level hitter.

For me, Almora is well ahead of anyone else under consideration.

Vizcaino

This takes me back to voting for Nolasco as player of the year when the rest of you wanted to give it to some other goof.

As soon as he shows he's healthy and durable, he'll raise back up my list. Until then, there's too much risk in my eyes to have him above a well-rounded prospect like Almora.

If I thought Vizcaino could stick in the rotation long-term, I'd consider him here, but I don't so I won't.

Vote for #3 Prospect

Postby New York Cubs Fan » Wed Dec 05, 2012 2:06 pm

Injury risk being considered, I would think Almora wins easily.

If we assume that Vizcaino comes back as the pitcher he was and the injuries are behind him then I would put him ahead of Almora. Arodys has dominant ace potential if he's healthy and sticks in the rotation.

I historically lean towards potential upside, so I am going with Vizcaino.

ETA: Almora has a high ceiling as well, I just think a dominant starter is more valuable than an All-Star CF (I guess that depends, but I think that's at least true in the playoffs). At the same time, depending on how you look at prospect lists, Almora could be our #1 prospect. I like Almora, and depending on how this year goes for him I could end up loving him.

Almora gets my vote here. I considered Vizcaino, and Vogelbach but considered them a bit more risky, though they could easily leapfrog him with good 2013 seasons.

Donated to charity. Hurricane relief, iirc. Though that may have been a different year.
