Please vote for the Cubs #17 prospect (serious votes only, please!). Please post your rationale below.

If someone convinces you that someone else should be higher, please feel free to change your vote anytime between now and Wednesday (giving an extra day due to NYE/NYD).

For this vote, you should select the players you feel should be #17, #18 and #19. If we end up with multiple players having similar vote totals at the end of the voting period, there will be a run-off with just those players.

Results so far:

#1: Javier Baez
#2: Jorge Soler
#3: Albert Almora
#4: Arodys Vizcaino
#5: Dan Vogelbach
#6: Brett Jackson
#7: Juan Paniagua
#8: Christian Villanueva
#9: Dillon Maples
#10: Josh Vitters
#11: Pierce Johnson
#12: Junior Lake
#13: Jeimer Candelario
#14: Duane Underwood
#15: Matt Szczur
#16: Arismendy Alcantara

I went Hernandez, Amaya, and Torreyes, all pretty much interchangeable for me

Torreyes
Amaya
Zych

I think Zych is underrated. His K/BB/HR were excellent, he's really fast, and his breaking ball is really good when it's on. Maybe I'm the only one, but I tend to think that as a college pick he's old and should already be near his ceiling. But he was a very young pick, and pitched almost all summer at age 21.

Amaya made good strides defensively, so both Amaya and Torreyes project as good defensive 2B. (Not great....) Amaya is bigger with more power, Torreyes is about the same age but two levels ahead, has pretty remarkable contact skill, and played hurt for much of the season. But Torreyes is so small, I think there's only so much power projection left. But I like both as 2B candidates, to someday hit 2nd, 7th, or 8th in the lineup.

Cabrera: very interested in seeing how his latest go at starting works out.

Curious - why did you switch from Loux last time to Cabrera? (Obviously I agree with Cabrera being rated higher, just wondering why.)

17.) Torreyes - I love the low K approach.
18.) Hernandez - Gets the nod based on his potential to stick at SS.
19.) Amaya - K's are worrying, but the power is encouraging.

I've got Watkins essentially tied with this group. I like his game better than Amaya right now, but the age thing is what leaves him off at this moment. I also heavily considered Cabrera at this point (I have Cabrera ahead of Underwood, for the record.)

Loux - been voting for hi a while
Hernandez - SS gets my vote before Amaya.
Amaya - This puts the frosting on top of KC's infield. All in the top 19.

This is getting iffy. Who really knows how reality shakes out now. I may still have one or two before I like Torreyes.

I'm in my MIF group here.

Torreyes
Amaya
Marco

Watkins will be next. Then I'll finally get to some pitching.

17. Marco Hernandez - There simply aren't that many shortstops in the minors with his complete set of tools. There's work to be done, particularly as it relates to discipline and approach, but he showed improvement at both stops as time went on.

After that, a bit hazy. I'm leaning

18. Gioskar Amaya - I wonder if his power ceiling is undersold a bit. I really wonder if his offensive production might end up being suitable for a corner OF role (barely). Now, he's better off being able to handle 2nd.

19. Alberto Cabrera - I'm very, very tempted to go Robert Whitenack here. Whitenack's velocity was there, and for the first year off TJ, that's a big plus. At the end of the day, Cabrera has late inning potential and is close to ready. May revisit this as we get closer.

I heard that Whitenack was 87-88 at Daytona, which might explain why he had 1.9 WHIP there and a 6.0 ERA. But I heard he was more comfortably back 90-91 in Mesa instrux this fall. I have a lot of confidence that management is pretty intelligent and is applying a lot of thought to prospects. That Whitenack got rostered suggests that they project him to come back with a lot better than the 1.9-WHIP stuff he was throwing at Daytona; that they like his upside enough to have not wanted to risk losing it; and that perhaps he'd shown some improved stuff in Mesa that had been seen by other teams.

I had a couple reports of Whitenack hitting 92 at Daytona at times, which is what I was going off of. That'd be roughly in line with what he was peaking at in 2011.

With close to 100 votes in, I feel like we can wrap this up for Torreyes at 17 ... and Hernandez/Amaya at 18/19. Hard to see someone getting enough votes to jump all the way past Hernandez/Amaya, so runoff makes sense.

I agree, easily enough separation to where thats 18/19 in some order.
