I don't believe anything would've devastated that campaign.

I tend to agree, but jeesh, the information that was known by people in the government before this election is crazy.

I suppose everyone thought Clinton was going to win had a lot to do with it. I think the utter disbelief that Trump could win helped him throughout the primaries and general election. No one took him seriously except for the idiots who voted for him.

He was elected after calling them rapists. These people simply don't care.

Of course they care.

They also happen to agree with him

http://www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/the-very-stable-house-generic-ballot/

On average, Democrats led the generic ballot by 7.1 points over the past year. The monthly average ranged from 6.2 points in February 2018 to 10.1 points in December 2017. The December result was clearly an outlier, however, and may have led to a misinterpretation of more recent results as indicating a significant decline in the Democratic lead.

My insomnia has kicked in...

538 has updated their 2020 Democratic primary draft...

Round 1 Bernie Sanders Kamala Harris Tammy Baldwin Kirsten Gillibrand
Round 2 Tim Ryan Elizabeth Warren Deval Patrick Joe Biden
Round 3 Howard Schultz Oprah Winfrey Jason Kander Amy Klobuchar
Round 4 Mitch Landrieu Cory Booker Julian Castro Steve Bullock
Round 5 Eric Holder Hillary Clinton John Hickenlooper Michelle Obama
Round 6 Mark Cuban Doug Jones Sally Yates Sherrod Brown

If I was to draft a top 10 at this point.... (not how I would want it but how I think it will go as I would have Buttigieg as my top choice)

1) Kamala Harris
2) Joe Biden
3) Bernie Sanders
4) Elizabeth Warren
5) Cory Booker
6) Kirsten Gillibrand
7) Tim Ryan
8) Julian Castro
9) Steve Bullock
10) Amy Klobuchar

Anyone else have a top 10?

Well, I'm staying up because of Ramadan messing up my sleep schedule (worth it). I guess I'll take a shot at it:

1) Bernie Sanders
2) Joe Biden
3) Kamala Harris
4) Julian Castro
5) Elizabeth Warren
6) Chris Murphy
7) Jerry Brown
8) Cory Booker
9) Kirsten Gillibrand
10) Sherrod Brown

Booker
Biden
Klobuchar
Castro
Gillibrand
Kander
Hickenlooper
Warner
Harris
Warren

I realize I left out Sanders. The nudge left of the party combined with a large field of younger, likable candidates leaves him with fringe support and the Dems stop letting an independent control their party

I know Kamala Harris is a popular choice, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the country who elected an overt racist over a white woman isn't going to vote for a woman of color in 2020

I guess her gender is probably a bigger "liability" than her skin color.

This is purely anecdotal, but last week's Ohio primary elections saw much greater Republican voter turnout than Democrat. Some are saying Ohio is moving away from purple towards a more solidly red state for 2018 and 2020

I don't think regularly "following the news" is necessarily a criteria for people to be motivated to show up and vote in this climate. Especially since that's now such a broad concept, and ESPECIALLY when you're talking about people 35 and younger.

We're still just removed from Obama and seeing how a PoC actually can drive people to the polls to vote for them. I think one of the Democrats' most easily avoided and ridiculous mistakes in 2016 was double down on the blinding whiteness of Clinton and with Kaine.
