We're still just removed from Obama and seeing how a PoC actually can drive people to the polls to vote for them. I think one of the Democrats' most easily avoided and ridiculous mistakes in 2016 was double down on the blinding whiteness of Clinton and with Kaine.

Yeah, a real misstep. And I like Kaine.

Yeah, in terms of policy/personality/etc., Kaine was fine, if uninspired, as a VP pick. But coming off of Obama, it was a bad look if you're looking to keep a lot of PoC voters invested in coming back out. Yeah, yeah; I know people will say that Trump being the opposition candidate should have been motivation enough to draw people out, but that's still not a good excuse to go with such an unnecessarily safe pick. Everything was already stirred up just by simply having Clinton running; adding the safest, blandest white dude possible wasn't going to mitigate things along those lines. Intentionally steering away from Sanders or a minority candidate was, IMO, a gigantic misread of the room.

It really is bonkers; Obama repeatedly, to his own MASSIVE detriment, kept trying over and over again to include and reach out ot the GOP, yet you hear scores of people talking on the Right about how we are where we are today because of "they way Obama talked about them, " or because, "Obama was out to get them," or, "Obama hated us," etc.. It's why I can only process things like the blatant awfulness of things like Fox News and Trump as these bizarre kind of self-fulfilling/wish-fulfillment aspects of the right. Like, they've spent decades about how liberal politicians and the media hate them and are cruelly biased and out to get them and are blatantly corrupt, so they basically willed into existence media outlets and politicians that actually are as hateful and incompetent and biased and corrupt as they feared...but on their side.

I'd counter that in the current racially charged climate, a candidate like Harris would energize the racist Trump-supporter vote just as much (if not more) than the liberal democrat vote

The racist Trump supporter will forever be energized by him. They don't need a black woman to drive them to the polls to stop all the Mexicans and Muslims from taking over their country.

You're going to have to show your math on that one, because unless a racially charged Trump vote somehow counts extra, the numbers don't really bear this out.

Yea, I mean the main base of Trump racists (ie the non Nazi ones) hate that equality for POC means giving up their own privilege. I don't think the president drives that as much compared to their actual every day lives. Which Trump gladly fuels.

Don't be an oaf. No one needs an example of someone being racist. Leave it to the imagination, or lack of one.

It's just sensibility. Nothing delicate about it. You wanna be a douche, have at it. You were the one dropping horsefeather bombs when someone called you on it, so let's not pretend I'M the delicate one here.
