You should try those Outlander books. They have similar covers to the GoT books, and only slightly less rape.

(Just kidding)

So I read High Life by Matthew Stokoe a while ago and recently got this itch to read more of his books. High Life was an insane read and left a big impression. It sucks I lost my copy. 2014's Colony of Whores is $350+ on Amazon and replacing my copy of High Life with a used copy would cost much more than I originally paid. Cows it is...

Anyone who likes Game of Thrones would most likely also enjoy the Wheel of Time series, it is very good.

That is a very intimidating series to start. The guy didn't even live to finish all 14(?) of them

Had the opportunity to meet James Elroy (LA Confidential, American Tabloid, Black Dahlia, etc...) at the Music Box Friday night. Spent a good 10 minutes just shooting the horsefeathers about books, movies, directors he's worked with. Totally cool.

I read the third one right after it came out. Loved how it wrapped everything up.

It turns out a “Lord of the Rings” TV series isn’t the biggest Tolkien news of the week or the month or the year.

Christopher Tolkien, son and literary heir of J.R.R. Tolkien, resigned from the Tolkien Estate.

I should probably finish The Cubs Way before I buy another Cubs book, but has anyone read this?

Edit - NSB won't let me post the Amazon link, I guess, but it's Rich Cohen's book which came out this past fall

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

That was a very good book, the guy is in his late 40's now but talked about how he fell in love with the Cubs during the Dave Kingman era, also talks about other eras prior to and since that. And of course the 2016 WS championship. Pretty quick read too, I finished it in two days

My favorite book that's come out since the WS is The Cubs Way, I read them all except Kaplan's book but Cohen's book is worth the read.

Just as an FYI, use the URL tags around the amazon link and it'll show up as a normal link. For some reason it gets weird when it tries to auto-embed amazon links otherwise.

I knew I'd seen talk about it on here at some point. Thanks.

FWIW, I saw some Twitter chatter about Cohen's book(at least I'm pretty sure it was that book) and how it had some shockingly bad factual errors(easily provable stuff about modern Cubs teams) that called into question the quality of the rest of it.

i do remember some things being a bit off. I seem to remember him talking about the Giants series and the runs scored in the 5th inning by the Giants in game 3 was wrong or something like that.

Man, I know The Sun is garbage and the term "gaslighting" gets tossed around a LOT these days....but this is total gaslighting, right? Like, how aggressively dense and stupid would you have to be to think that, "Frankenstein's monster is supposed to be seen at least somewhat in a sympathetic light," is some kind of crazy, hyper-sensitive, "snowflake" opinion?

"Sniveling libs think The Great Gatsby is some kind of condemnation of the idle rich instead of an appreciation about how awesome the parties our superior oligarch masters throw!"

"Wimpy socialist cucks declare that Catch-22 is a scathing indictment of the absurd horrors of war instead of the amusing antics of our dreamy military heroes for whom we should be standing in front of flag at all times!"
