I kinda assumed everyone in the Chicago area of a certain age range knew of him. Mr. Show made fun of him, too:

Ha! Bittenbinder was the inspiration for F.F. Woodycooks on Mr Show....

F.F. Woodycooks is a character played by Bob Odenkirk, featured in the first episode of the second season. He hosts a show called "Take Back the Streets", which is similar in form to America's Most Wanted, but with several differences. When a suspect is apprehended, Woodycooks shakes his "Crime Stick" at their actions and refers to them as ding-a-lings. He also commonly refers to himself as "Me".

The character is based on Chicagoan J.J. Bittenbinder, an ex-cop who hosted a television show about crime safety. Mr. Show writer and cast member Paul F. Tompkins has said he was inspired to create the character after seeing an episode of Bittenbinder's show in which the host referred to a group of rapists as "goofs."

Woodycocks, unlike Bittenbinder, owns an Ice Cream franchise with three locations, or "precincts." His ice cream was the official ice cream of the Independent Nations Games.

I was gonna blame youtube being blocked at work for me not noticing that, but he specifically mentions Mr Show in the post, so I have no excuse.

It took a while to get rolling and I really dislike his voice and delivery but the final 40 minutes or so were hilarious

Prince’s archives are the stuff of legend, but what about Mitch Hedberg’s? We’ll soon find out, as in a guest column in today’s The Hollywood Reporter, Hedberg’s widow, Lynn Shawcroft, reveals that she’s spent the last eight months diligently digitizing a huge archive of unreleased material from the late comedy legend, and that “at some point soon, all of you will be hearing and seeing Mitch again.”

Shawcroft says that she and Hedberg filmed four of his shows on 16mm before his death, “enough for a brand-new concert film,” and that she also has a wealth of home-video footage Hedberg shot himself, with his narration, that could be cut into a documentary about his life.

I added it to my list the night before you made this post and just got around to it today. I spent the first 15-20 minutes wondering why anyone would recommend it then by the end I was telling everyone I know to watch it

Netflix canceled The Break with Michelle Wolf and The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale today. I never got around to watching The Break yet, but The Joel McHale Show was just a ton of horsefeathering fun and I'm upset it's not coming back.

Just one season each. They were their weekly programs, which did not garner enough views, which is probably a more of a testament to Netflix not knowing how to manage their weekly programs rather than the shows inability to pick up viewers. Netflix is known for being able to binge whole seasons of narrative fiction. Weekly topical talk shows are not exactly in their wheelhouse.

Yeah, I thought the Joel McHale show was a weird fit for Netflix.

Mainly the weekly shows don't fit because Netflix is horrendous about actually successfully promoting about 95% of their programming. The vast majority of them just kind of exist in the ether until you stumble across them or see them written up somewhere.

That said, cancelling the delightful nu-The Soup already seems a tad presumptuous since it probably costs, what, next to nothing to make, and could have actually served as a promotional tool for other Netflix shows.

i really enjoyed the joel mchale show (esp pizza ghost and the end credits song), but i figured it had to be in trouble when they dropped that last batch of episodes just all at once.
