Crockpots are a means for attempting to make inedible things edible. I have an idea, let’s just cook this mostly sinew and bone until it disintegrats and pour it over mashed potatoes. It will be great. I don’t use crockpots.

Or, you know, throw four boneless chicken breasts and a jar of salsa in before work and come back to deliciousness

That doesn’t sound delicious at all.

Come home cut up the chicken breast into strips heat a cast iron pan, throw some oil on the pan, season the breast, and onions and cook for 5 whole minutes. 15 minutes tops total time and you have something edible.

If you want crock pot amazingness, throw a pork shoulder in there with a bunch of other ingredients like diced tomatoes, spicy seasonings or hot sauce, onions, peppers, etc. Add chicken or beef stock. Beer works too, actually (not joking). Let that sit for 8 hours after you leave for work and come home to some of the best pulled pork you'll ever have. MAke yourself some sandwiches, sliders, tacos, whatever. A pork shoulder isn't that expensive and it will last for days.

I like edible food. If that makes me crazy, so be it. I’m sure you’ll enjoy rubber chicken breast ala Newman’s Own salsa verde at the Derwoods.

I'm doing this tomorrow. One of the best recipes I do is so simple yet so good. 1.5 tablespoons liquid smoke, 1.5 tablespoons red Hawaiian sea salt. Cook it for 10 hours on low and you've got some of the best pulled pork. I also use the meat later on for things like fried rice and adult Mac and cheese, etc etc.

Man, I upgraded to the crock pot's smarter, sexier cousin, the Instant Pot, and it is horsefeathering glorious. CubinNY is a straight up lunatic.

I have been wanting to jump into the Instant Pot craze. What size would you recommend? What are some of your go-to recipes? How often do you use it?

I got the 6 quart, which is definitely a lot for just me, but it just means I have a lot of leftovers. For a couple or a family of 3-4 that size would be fine.

I mostly use mine for stews, curries, chili and pasta sauces, but it also makes fantastic mashed potatoes and things like tikka masala, too. Really perfected shredded chicken and pork, too. I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do; this "yogurt" button is just sitting here unused!

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

I don’t hate crockpots. Their only purpose is to attempt to make inedible meat edible. Cocking other things in one can be done in other and better in other ways. I truly hope everyone enjoys their boiled meat, yum.

Set it and forget it, forever!

Well, now I see what you were doing wrong.

Though, seriously; it's not "boiling meat," you weirdo.

There is no way someone has multiple crockpot meals and comes away with a take this bad.

Even the example of "15 minute tops" to cook chicken is more steps and prep than a slowcooker while guaranteed to be way less delicious.
