My son is 10 which is pretty much the apex of Lego interest. We're running out of room for the stuff we've built. We started watching Star Wars Resistance and got the idea to build the new ships from that series. Now we've pretty much run out of room on the shelf but my son doesn't want to take any of them apart.
There's a Lego group for every line of sets (Star Wars, City, etc.) on Facebook. Most are closed groups but will let probably everyone in that wants to join. People there could direct you toward the best places to sell your sets and then use the money to buy more. Be forewarned, though, there are people there that have dedicated whole rooms to really amazing Lego displays.
Short story long. Buy the kit and build it. Then take it apart and sell it. If you still have the box and include the Mini figures you should get most of your money back for the bigger sets, particularly if you wait until they're no longer available in stores.
