All administrations lie, but it is the fundamental resting pulse of the Trump regime. Do what Daddy does.

On the one hand, a tweet for every occasion.

On the other hand, it sucks that is ultimately a roundabout way of endorsing the idea that criticizing military top brass is off limits or over the line. horsefeathers those guys.

you'd think this would matter to the "support our troops" crowd, but undoubtedly it will not.

They can explain way any Information they don’t like as fake news. A few pages back I posted about one of those types who told me the Access Hollywood quote of Trump was fake news.

Of course, they don't really care about criticizing top military brass. They'd certainly do it if it was in their own interests. They just don't like criticism of "their guy".

No, I get that part it of it; I'm just nitpicking that the responsive gotcha is arguably saying that Trump was wrong simply for criticizing a general, too. Yeah, Trump and co. are wrong in that they're trying to take the non-existent high ground and rampaging around pointing fingers like the willful hypocrites they are, but I'm....uncomfortable with potentially jumping so quickly to also defend military leaders from criticism. Trump is so topsy-turvy he's sent many on the Left into the kind of arms you'd never expect or want to see them so fervently on the side of (namely the military and the intelligence community).

i thought this was a good article about how kelly is a piece of horsefeathers.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/201 ... story.html

Thursday afternoon, John Kelly delivered one of the most despicable statements that I’ve ever heard from a White House official. He ignored the suffering of a Gold Star widow and launched a slanderous attack against a sitting member of Congress, all to defend Donald Trump’s indefensible behavior.

...

As it turned out, Trump’s call didn’t comfort Johnson’s widow. It made her cry, in part because Trump didn’t appear to know her husband’s name. Cowanda Jones-Johnson, who is Sergeant Johnson’s aunt, but who largely raised him, backed up Wilson’s statement and told The Washington Post, “President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband.”

Putting everything else aside, isn’t that the most important story here? I find it hard to believe that the president of the United States made a Gold Star widow cry on purpose. But he made her cry nonetheless. Shouldn’t that make Trump and Kelly heartbroken? Shouldn’t it be their priority to apologize to Myeshia Johnson and do everything they can to soothe her pain and that of her family?

....

Americans should expect that the president will rise above pettiness; that she or he will be the better woman or man. With this White House, such expectations are a fool’s errand. And on Thursday, Kelly’s ghastly, disgraceful, contemptible performance offered a compelling reminder that the so-called “adults in the room” are the same ones enabling this horror show of a presidency.

Kelly's unabashed pursuit of draconian measures while at Homeland Security disabused me of any notion that he was someone anyone but Trumpland would think of as a good guy. It went well beyond being a good soldier. He's proven to me that he is a Trumpist. 4 stars can't inoculate from that kind of stain.

The sheer volume of the nonsense Trump says and thinks is staggering. All the stuff that comes every week always finds a way to shock me. Just when I think there won't be another revelation, there is one. This morning I read that one of his ghostwriters for one of his terrible books was on his private jet and Trump mentioned to him that the Renoir painting on the jet was an original. The author told Trump that the painting was a reproduction and the real one was hanging in the Art Institute of Chicago. Trump insisted it was real and wouldn't back down. A few days later Trump told him it was real again.

One of two things happened, (1) Trump was swindled and didn't know it was a fake, or (2) Trump somehow convinced himself that it was real because he paid a lot of money for it. Either way, the man has no business being President.

Forget the contents of the phone call. I'm sure it was hamhanded and awful, but there's some tiny amount of wiggle room that a person in that level of emotional distress could take something the wrong way and be upset.

The pathological lying that brought it to light is worse, and so is the story of how it all went down that this soldier died.
