Rhodes especially aggravated many conservatives, and that always kind of fascinated me. They seriously hate this dude. As with Obama, I think they disliked his youth paired with his optimism and access to the levers of power. I'll eventually get around to reading his book, I'm sure.

Yep...the backlash in response to our first black president, as discussed by some of us here:

After Donald Trump won, Obama mused in the back of a limo, "Were we too soon?" What did you take that to mean?

Demographics. He said to us, "This country's going to change. You know, there's gonna be a Latino Barack Obama and an Asian Barack Obama." But the demographic tipping point hasn't happened. He caught lightning in a bottle in 2008 and kind of cut the line. He was young. Again, the demographics hadn't shifted. So I think what he was wrestling with at the end there was that Trump was able to cobble together enough of a backlash constituency rooted in grievance — a largely white coalition — in a way that frankly would not be demographically possible 10 or 20 years from now.

The "demographics as destiny" thing becomes less fun when you begin to see how far white conservatives are willing to go to maintain power. Voter suppression and gerrymandering were just the start. Now they're actively trying to remove Hispanic citizens from the country. The worse things get for them demographically, the more extreme their reaction, and I don't think there's a bottom.

I think the demographic thing is a bit overblown. There will be plenty of Latino and Asian conservatives trying to keep out the next minority group just like the Italians and the Irish and on and on.

I don't know how we get the country to live up to ideals, I really don't.

Why is he tweeting so late? Is this a lame attempt to divert from the fact that five latino Congress members protested and yelled at him tonight?

I thought it was going to be a tone deaf statement that was a metaphorical "womp womp" not a literal "womp womp"

The last week and a half has been mind-numbingly infuriating.

I would totally punch Corey Lewandowski in the face if I saw him in public. What a douchebag...

I would prefer choking him unconconsious and giving him the ol "womp womp" just before he passed out.

So the Singapore summit was probably just a consultancy job for Kim on how to run concentration camps in a cheap and efficient way.
After all, he's the current world expert on the matter.

I'll fully cop to not thinking Trump would ever win, but once he did, I knew he meant every word of what he said in the run-up to the election, and that included his immigration program. I also knew that if mainstream America was ever going to wake up and realize what we're dealing with, it would be when he made his move on immigration and the photos and videos started coming in of children being arrested.

This is just the test run. He absolutely intends to follow through with his promise of a 100% crackdown on undocument immigration. Even if you believe he would follow through with his version of a DACA proposal that he was offering if Democrats agreed to thousands of border patrol agents and a full wall, he would still be intending to deport 2 or 3 million people, many of them children. He intends to hire enough enforcement officers to physically arrest all these people, he intends to build the internment camps to house them, and god knows what he intends to do with them after that.

Here is a video below of protesters screaming at Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen while she is dining at ... no horsefeathering way ... I'm not joking ... a Mexican restaurant. horsefeathers her and this administration for what they've done.

I hope she got to eat some thoroughly spat-in food before leaving.

My favourite part of the story is what her spokesperson said in response to the news reports:

Yeah she was forced to cut short her meal because too many people showed up to agree with her.

Trump made a Marc Sanford joke during his immigration meeting last night that went over like a lead balloon. This horsefeathers just can’t stop being a bully, can he? Can’t pass an opportunity to rub salt in wounds
