Is Pluto the same as Pluto TV, the free streaming service with cable guide navigation and hundreds of channels including one that is exclusively point-of-view videos of various train rides? Because that sounds like a Fox News competitor in the same way that their channels that play 20 year old B movies is a Netflix competitor.

In less exciting news, my county's Democratic party chairperson has asked me to run for a county board seat.

I'm considering it, but the district is like 60/40 R, if not 65/35. Not really sure how much time/energy is worth putting into what would be a very hard seat to win. Hell, the democrats haven't even fielded a contender out here in like 20 years. But my opponent is like a billion years old, does no fundraising, puts out no yard signs, and doesn't even have a Facebook page. And my old political science professors are offering me like a half-dozen interns. I may be able to make it interesting.

So I'm thinking about it.

Have any of you got any experience running for any local offices?

Well, they do also have a big block of news channels, too.

Who's gonna notice that when they can know what it's like to take the train from Vienna to Rome right from their couch?

Not myself personally, but I've helped with a few campaigns, including a successful one for my sister in law. I'll DM you.

Btw, it might be worth tuning into MSNBC or the like at 6:30 Eastern (in 25 minutes). Sounds like Pelosi might be giving an update on the recent testimony...maybe even announcing an upcoming impeachment vote.

If the main reason you might not run is based on demographics, that really isn't a valid reason.

If you're unsure that you actually want to do it based on not enough time or lack of passion, then don't run.

I've part of local elections as well as a county Democrat.

Be willing to sacrifice everything before you run.

I would love to see several of these candidates face-off against Pence in a vice presidential debate. Mayor Pete, Kamala Harris, etc. would just mop the floor with him

Yeah, I don't like Harris's politics very much or most especially her campaign, but she is clearly the sharpest on her feet.

It's because they suck at that kind of thing. I keep hoping the messaging becomes more pointed once the field is slimmed down. I don't watch much cable/sat TV, but I've seen the same anti-impeachment Trump commercial about a dozen times the past couple weeks. Nothing from Dems. **yes, my singular anecdote is meaningless, just sayin'**

They're not campaigning against Trump. The election isn't for over a year. I'm aware the debates are generally pointless, especially in the twitter age where everyone is just angling for a soundbite, but use the time you have to figure out which one of the candidates is the best to beat Trump. All 12 of them echoing the same anti-Trump talking points doesn't help at this point.

Why is every republican echoing the same pro-Trump talking points so effective but Democrats not pointing out how obvious it is that the president is a crook not helping?

Yeah, no kidding. It would be one thing if we were just talking about generic anti-Trump/GOP rhetoric, but we're talking about them all effectively ducking the gigantic elephant in the room of THE PRESIDENT'S IMPEACHMENT.
