Of course, they just want to muddy the waters and slow the process. The “rule” that they are trying to pull simply doesnt exist. There is no reason to hold this vote. So, don’t. Nothing good ever comes from extra, unnecessary steps. They just made it look like the gop had a point in their process complaints. They didnt. horsefeathers them, go forward within the rules as planned, dont bend an inch for them, dont hold silly unnecessary votes. Collect your evidence then release it publicly and vote on the eventual articles of impeachment, and ignore their complaints completely along the way.

This article from WaPo does a pretty good job of explaining the thinking behind it. Im not a legal or political scholar, but it makes sense to me. I suppose time will tell

Well hell, it looks like i fell victim to bad reporting. I read that it was the vote that Republicans have been talking about. Thanks for the link.

it was obvious that the white house would just doctor the details of the call, but damned if the media didn’t just buy the whole thing hook, line and sinker like they did with Barr’s summary of the mueller report.

"The media" response to the transcript was overwhelmingly, "this edited transcript is incredibly damning to this administration," so, uh, what?

I mean, I think there is a fair point to be made that there weren't enough questions asked on why this wasn't a full transcript, especially when Trump and the rest of the White House started to referring to it that way. I remember seeing something that based on the time of the call, it would have required speaking at like 60 WPM in order for that to make sense, which clearly isn't realistic.

At the risk of 'shoe is dropping' it...the White House thought the transcript they released was good enough because there was no explicit quid pro quo, and then everyone read it and picked up on it right away. If they felt compelled to retract parts of it...it can't be good.

Again, the commentary was overwhelmingly, "we know this is the WH's version, and we expect to see more information/revelations as this is investigated." Like, nobody was just taking it at face value except for the media outlets stanning for the president.

I thought the understanding was that there WASN'T a full word-for-word transcript, and that this was a summary

Right, a lot of people in the media were incredulous that the WH would put out a document so damning to Trump's case. Like, if this is the best they could do he's in deep horsefeathers when the actual transcript comes out.

If anything, I blame the Democrats for their self-satisfaction in what the WH produced. The Dems in the HOR should be screaming that our house is on fire to anyone who will listen because it is. This slow burn, Pelosi is the master [expletive] is just that.

I don't mind the narrative that Pelosi is playing 5-D chess taking hold, but yeah, the premise is horsesh1t.

So why do these men look like such horsefeathers on television and other public appearances when, presumably, they have access to the tools and people who could make them look less like horsefeathers?

I suppose if you are going to heavily subsidize something, food would be high on the list, but still.

Count on it, despite it being obvious their situation has worsened since they helped put Trump in the White House, they'll continue to vote against their own self-interests. There's a medical term for such behavior, oh I know, it's called stupidity.
