And it is often said moderate Dems suck at aspirational messaging...

IMO, you will never have a party or president who is willing to set the precedent of presidents being able to be convicted after their time in office for anything they did while in office.

I think the endgame for the Democrats if they manage to take back the WH and, even more of a stretch, the Senate, is to ditch the Electoral College.

And maybe remove any verbiage from the consitution that states that a President cannot be convicted of a crime while in office. That seriously needs to go away, also.

So the Republicans could have Obama arrested for eating fancy mustard?

If they end up with the means to do so (both houses, the presidency, and end of the filibuster) I'd not only look to end the electoral college, I'd look to rewrite ALL the rules leading to systemic advantages that Republicans have been leaning on to remain in power despite their shrinking demographics. Codify an independent, non-partisan office to draw congressional districts with line drawing rules designed to prevent irregularly shaped districts to help eliminate gerrymandering, standardize the voting princess across the country with a focus on encouraging as much participation as possible (same day registration, more polling places, maybe even absentee eVoting of it can be secured) with booths that are more secure than today's with a paper receipt backup for verifiable recounts, and campaign financing reform via a congressional amendment reversing citizens united as well as eliminating anyone besides the candidate themselves from running ads. I'm sure there's even more that can be done along these lines, but ensure a level playing field first, and everything else on the agenda becomes infinitely more achievable.

The huge hurdle to dumping the EC is that it requires an ammendment change. It'll likely take a couple or more tries to get enough states on board.

I don't follow this thread closely enough. I've seen a lot of Mayor Pete negativity...just curious if UK is still a big fan. His post about him many months ago was the first time I'd heard of him.

Louisiana Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards just won re-election in the runoff by about 8000 votes. Trump has been here 3 times in the last month to campaign for the Republican idiot in the race. Edwards ran on anti corruption, education and health care. Record turnout in the cities for a runoff.

Yes, despite the blunders like the rollout and overall creation of his Douglass plan and negative feedback regarding his odd positioning of being more progressive than Biden but less progressive than Sanders/Warren, I still support him above all at this point.

I think his health care plan is the best progression into single payer, there's currently too high % of people who are happy with their insurance (likely based on fear and lack of knowledge). I think M4A at this point turns health care into a disadvantage.

I also like the salary cap on free tuition, the concept of the 1% family members getting free tuition never sat right. I would have tied reparations into it by including all black college students, current, past and future with their student loans all paid for regardless of income.

As far as whether or not he's electable within the African American community only Biden does well among the top 4.

Spoiler: show

There really needs to be more outrage over this. These are horsefeathering concentration camps and it's horrific that this is still happening. Of course, US corporations and Trump won't say or do anything for fear of reprisals...

Uh, pretty sure the Trump administration not speaking out over the horrible treatment of Muslims has zero to do with fear of reprisals, and more like they're too busy stroking their tiny boners wishing they could do the same.

Something weird is happening with Trump's visit to Walter Reed Hospital. This wasn't a routine visit like they're pushing to the media. This isn't normal protocol and Dr. Gupta was talking about this on CNN.

Something happened and I normally don't wish ill health on anyone, but...

It probably wasn't a routine visit, but there is nothing unusual about his "work" schedule. He doesn't work and it shows every time he has to give a speech in public that isn't given extemporaneously. It shows in the whiplash policy decisions that catch his subordinates off guard. It shows in a million different ways. The horsefeathers that is going to come out after he's out of office is going to scare us even more than the stuff we already know about.
