The Pelosi tear was kinda brilliant. Nobody is talking about Trump's speech today...just the tear. Positively or negatively, she is the one with the attention of the news cycle now.

“The AIA is aware (and has been actively addressing this) that there is a draft executive order circulating for consideration by White House officials that would officially designate “classical” architecture as the preferred style for the following building types: federal courthouses, all federal public buildings in the Capital region, and all other federal public buildings whose cost exceed $50 million in modern dollars. The AIA strongly and unequivocally opposes this change in policy to promote any style of architecture over another for these types of federal buildings across the country.

The draft executive order defines “classical architectural style” to mean architectural features derived from classical Greek and Roman architecture.”

The Nazis were the last to do this. They were trying to connect with a glorious past they themselves didnt have.

Welcome to the 4th reich

The MAGA Billys out there are way too ignorant to get or understand the ramifications of this, I'll take it further, Stephen Miller is the new Himmler.

I found the tearing of the speech kinda, meh. I do find it funny that all the MAGA chuds are calling for their clutching pearls and fainting couches over a breach in decorum.

Exactly. It was a very Trump-like move in grabbing the narrative away. I mean this in a good way.

The article is in German so I can't blame you. Basically, Merkel's party is very center, but was losing some elections to the far-right, and it seems they have made a coalition deal with the insanely anti-immigrant/neo-nazi portion of the country, without really telling anyone ahead of time, most especially the portion of the party that had alligned with the left to win elections, previously.

Heh, yeah...the article is in German; the tweet was just a lazy reference point by me. I've been fascinated for the last several years by what is happening in Europe, Re: far right.

I think it's way beyond "slippery slope" concerns. Given it's history in Germany specifically, I think stuff like this has deeper, visceral implications. OTOH, as some Twitter responses to that tweet suggest, another way of looking at this is "Hey, big horsefeathering deal. It's democracy at work." YMMV of course.

Romney voting to convict...wow.

EDIT: First Senator in history to vote to remove a President from his own party.

Should be noted he's also voting only for the abuse of power charge and not the obstruction of congress charge.

Of course there are two or three Ds who might give that same vote.

So this was actually the most bipartisan impeachment trial in history then?

The photo op with the press in the Oval Office scheduled for after the vote was immediately cancelled after Romney's vote.

If only Limbaugh had better than subpar American health care, he might not be staring at hell in the face.

It’s the 3rd

Nixon's never went to trial because he resigned, so there was no vote.
