It's a relief to hear China is now an American tax payer. Unfortunately, China is probably in too high of a tax bracket to actually pay taxes.

The muting of his microphone has resulted in forcing Trump to fight his own worst traits.

He was pretty composed early on and getting good attacks in IMO. But he’s fallen back into making baseless claims and taking cheap shots. It’s like he’s unable to stay composed for more than 45 mins. Biden is doing a good job bouncing back. The healthcare section was a home run for him.

Why are they looking in the wrong direction than when they walked out? Biden’s podium was on the right and he’s looking to his left at the moderator. Shouldn’t he be looking right and Trump looking left?

The podiums face inward.

Biden could literally respond to half of Trump's accusations of failure with "Ask Mitch McConnell" or "I wasn't President"

But he doesn't, he has to take the typical politician route.

So how out of context are people going to take that oil/clean energy thing at the end?

Completely. Biden just wrote a campaign ad for Trump in Texas, Oklahoma, etc.

Yeah, that wasn't great.

I think Trump won tonight's debate, not on substance, but on appearance and perception. If I just woke up from a 4 year nap and watched tonight's debate, I could possibly make an argument that this version of Trump is a better candidate than Biden. But we all know who Trump really is and his talking points are full of lies and misdirection. Now we just have to ride out the next two weeks and hang on. The Cubs have a lead in the 9th inning, but the Closer is a little shaky!

I mean, how much has he normalized his crazy horsefeathers when you're saying something like this about a debate in which he repeatedly lied, made the absurd comments he made about wind energy, made the "low-IQ" line, and compared himself to Abraham Lincoln in terms of what he has accomplished for minorities (calling himself the "least racist person in the room")?

He absolutely has normalized crazy. On the surface though, on the rare occasion when he reels himself in, he can come across as the quicker-witted strong candidate against a slightly bumbling old man. I think that holds much more weight than it should with many people. But hopefully it is much too little too late.

Yea there's a serious Stockholm syndrome thing going on with Trump.

I only watched about the last half hour, but I would agree with those takes that say he did a decent job speaking to his base. So there may be some work he did at the margins of his base.... People who are never gonna vote for Joe, but may have even been exhausted enough with Trump after the first debate to just give up and not vote. He probably showed enough to reel back in some of those. But it isn't evident to me that he was taking steps to expand outside his base. At best there maybe are some really basic "screw these washington insiders maaannnn" types who aren't broadly conservative or even ideological who he could sway with his performance?

For the life of me I have no idea why when the discussion of black people in America comes up, a crime bill is always brought up 1st. This is true on both sides (although I'd expect it from one side).
