Americans are strongly socialized to give in to the impulse to do whatever is best for you, personally, regardless of what it means for everyone else. As long as membership in the Republican party represent the opportunity to accrue money, influence and status, there will be smart people lining up to debase themselves.

The Politics Thread

Postby Soul » Fri Nov 20, 2020 6:21 pm

How can it be legal for the President to target selected state officials and try to bully them into overturning an election?

One thing this election has showed me is just how vulnerable our elections are from within, rather than from the outside. There’s so much of it based on norms and a sense of duty to act honorably once the votes are in.

Surely there are some common sense “fail safe” laws that can be put in place to prevent this. The process of seeking remedy from the courts needs to be respected but taking individuals into a room and brow beating them? Hands off.

If this is about the Michigan votes in Wayne isn't what their doing basically witness/jury tampering after the verdict was released? Like it's bad and dumb, but as far as being illegal... I don't know.

its more like harassment really, harassing a public servant after the decision has been made. But truthfully in this case, the public servant is willingly being harassed and all I can ask for is for said servant to be thoroughly harassed

Apparently he's got meetings with legislators/election officials from PA lined up as well. GA certified their results, Kemp has to sign something by 5 - 5:30 today, wouldn't be surprised if there's horsefeathers about to happen with him doing so. Is this finally it, for 5.9 millionth time? The [expletive] is actively trying to tamper with election results before everyone' eyes.

Thats how I see it. This temper tantrum could have drastic effects on this country if not responded to properly. We won't be able to put all this stuff back in a box and hope it goes away before the next election. Things like election integrity and challenging results will not go away. Part of the reason why I think we have to find a way to charge Trump to the full extent of the law even if it damages democratic standing in the short term (not saying it necessarily would). We need to get democracy back under control.

That horsefeathering Barbie Doll says today' meeting is an advocacy meeting. That's exactly correct advocates for stealing an election Trump didn't win. Don't believe anything will come of this nonsense but, it pissing off me that it's being allowed to happen. I don't give a horsefeathers if its "norm shattering", at its core its wrong and should not be occurring.

There's no way I trust Kemp to not try something, but this may be a false alarm.
