100% this.

I've noticed lately a disturbing trend among numerous professional class friends and colleagues I know. These are educated upper middle class types whom I've never noticed to be overtly political i.e. never noticed them posting about politics on Facebook in the past, yet suddenly they sound like the worst kind of raving Trump QAnon lunatics. The only unifying thread about these people is that they are all people whom I would classify as evangelical Southern Baptist types, so my only assumption is that they are getting this horseshat from the pulpit.

Not from the pulpit, but from the church social, playdates, trunk or treats, after church breakfasts, etc.

One of the things that I was most amazed and shocked about when I moved to Alabama was how much of life for a lot of people revolves around their church. I make a joke that is mostly true, the second question people ask you is what church do you go to. The first is, who do you root for. The answer to the second question is more important than the first. At a Christmas tree lighting ceremony two years ago I heard two ladies talking about their kids. One lady told the other that her son doesn't really have any school friends, all his friends are from the church. It's like that with a lot of people down here. Most of the White kids do to private, church-affiliated schools.

Growing up in the midwest is like growing up in another country.

I do not believe following through with impeachment after the 20th is an empty gesture, Trump will be barred from federal office thereby, marking him as GOP outcast, a "true" criminal. We're starting to hear words like sedition and terrorism being linked to the participants of the riot last week, not good for them nor Trump. If it comes to pass that Trump is impeached and barred from office we might finally get what many of us have pined for. I don't believe they'll be any problem with following through and pressing criminal charges against a former President who's barred from office acting as the leader of a terrorist group or, something along those lines.

You pretty much nailed the Deep South in a single observation. Have never thought about it in those exact terms. Good stuff.

As someone who never went to church growing up and was unabashedly agnostic when the topic of God came up, I was treated as a leper by many at school. But that was fine, I didn’t want to be friends with those idiots anyways.

What trips me up about these "Christians" is their failures at being Christian.

I will be excited for the expulsion of members, but few will please me more than Boebert and Taylor Greene.

What happens if there’s another attack on the Capitol or somewhere else and things get out of hand. Who are the reinforcements?

If it turns out that they aided the rioters in any way, expulsion isn't nearly enough. But big picture, give me Cruz and Hawley. Boebert and Taylor Greene are ticking time bombs for about a hundred different reasons. Let them show just how crazy these people have gotten for a few more months before they put on blackface to mock AOC or something.

I'm in sales and am starting to reach out to people I talked to last year to revive some previous opportunities. One response I just got:

We are still in a little bit of transition with all that is going on and we will certainly not be making any changes until after the election and we get some insight as to the next 4 years.

Boebert and other reps close to QAnon cannot be let into the Capitol without going through a metal detector. I would not put it past her do perpetrate violence.

Many of us knew a Trump presidency was going to be big horsefeathering hot mess, did any anticipate it being this bad? Sure, he was going to indulge in sucking as much money out of the office as possible and probably get away with it but, this?

Yes

I was thinking along the lines of nuclear annihilation because the wrong world leader commented on the size of his hands so thankfully we've only gotten violent insurrections and near destruction of democracy.

The specific storylines, no, but pretty close. I've said all along my biggest concern is normalizing over the top craziness, which has a two-fold effect of having those crazy mofos in power while having the regular crazies get treated as normal. I've also been concerned about his appeal to cops and military members who could (and obviously already have) participate in anti-democratic attempts at a power grab.
