Imagining trump confessing to his crimes and perverted non-crimes through tears like Chunk to the Fratellis is making me high

I got irrationally excited today when I saw an article complaining about how Joe Biden's pelaton is a bad look for his "normal guy" image and I realized that we're back to pathetic boring old "Obama wearing a brown suit" controversies.

seanimal wrote:while we wait for these pardons to drop, i would like to express profound confusion about why people are worried that DJT would pardon himself. if i understand this correctly, in order to pardon yourself for a crime, the crime needs to be named. not only would this require him to overcome his pathological inability to cop to anything, but it seems like it would essentially amount to a signed confession should the courts rule that "no one is judge in his own cause"

That is likely incorrect. The exact crime need not be named. A timeframe alone is sufficient. For instance, the relevant portion of Ford's pardon of Nixon reads

Now, THEREFORE, I, GERALD R. FORD, President of the United States, pursuant to the pardon power conferred upon me by Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, have granted and by these presents do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974.

Of course, whether Trump's team knows this or not is an open question. They are pretty dumb.

It's also possible that they think that a pardon of specific crimes is more likely to withstand legal scrutiny that one without. It's quite likely that SCOTUS will be hearing a number of pardon-related cases to finally delineate what is and is not legally acceptable. For instance, we really haven't had court cases dealing with self-pardons or pardons of co-conspirators before. Ford's DOJ didn't go after Nixon. Bidens DOJ may go after Trump. So they may be wary of the ground shifting under their feet. If Trump gives himself an unspecified pardon and SCOTUS says that is unconstitutional, Trump would look incredibly guilty during his trials. So there's that to think about. From a legal standpoint, if you think the self-pardon is worthless it's probably his best strategy to pretend he never did anything wrong and get a MAGA idiot on the jury to give him a hung jury.

What's up with the YMCA obsession? Don't get that especially with Trump.

Putting aside my loathing of Trump for a moment, the simple fact is he was never capable of being President nor will he ever be. Even had he good intentions or a real interest in the job I'm certain he still would have horsefeathers things up. Was never fit for office, never fit for true real life situational, logical thought needed to solve a problem just not in his playbook. We here all knew this, as did many others yet, enough were conned to vote him into office. Conned by the act, parroting whatever Bannon, etc. told him during the campaign of 2016.
