Are they really offended that she would identify with them in terms of race?
Warren is a white person. She grew up knowing she was white. Growing up with family lore of having some Native American ancestry shouldn't lead an intelligent and honest person down a path to where they claim Native American or minority status on official documents. I can only speculate as to why she would claim Native American as her primary race on a document, but I suspect there was some improper motivation behind doing so.
I have a great-great grandfather who was straight up 100% Choctaw, so I guess that makes me 1/16th Choctaw. The idea that I would ever identify myself as Native-American is ludicrous. Hell, I suspect you and half the people on this board have Native-American ancestry 6-10 generations ago (as Warren's DNA test showed).
Bottom line is that unless it is shown that she derived an actual benefit from claiming minority status, then it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things other than it being a bad look for her.
As far as politicians go, if that's the only real skeleton in her closet, then she's a saint.
