If it's just some boring, "rah-rah, Trump rules," horsefeathers, then it'll just be bad, boring TV. If it's something in there because it's the kind of things that stirs things up between the characters, doesn't seem like a big deal.

Have they made it clear how far back they're rewinding the storyline? Dan's not dead, right? Did they win the lottery?

Not sure what they are going to do about the Dan's dead/lottery story line.

I did find out that both Becky's are returning

Yeah, they haven't said exactly what Sarah Chalke's role is gonna be.

I found this:

"EW can exclusively reveal that Chalke will play a middle-class married woman named Andrea who hires Becky (Goranson) to serve as her surrogate. The plot twist not only leads to some drama within the Conner family but it gives the producers a chance to wink at how important both women were to series, which aired from 1988 to 1997"

watched episode 6 ("vergangenheit") of the crown season 2 last night and that was, without question, the best episode of the series so far. i had no idea of edward's history pre and post-king so going in blind made that episode that much better.

also: pip torrens should get some mvp votes for his performance as tommy lascelles.

The scene with Elliot and Margo in the woods was absolutely hilarious. The more they phase out Quinten in favor of Elliot, the better.

Holy horsefeathers, everyone was right; I can't think of another show that had this drastic of a turnaround. The first season is still completely forgettable at best, but everything afterwards so far ranks way, WAY up there for me with the best series of this ongoing "golden age of TV." Wow.

I think I posted about this when the finale happened or when the last season started. Yeah, either way, phenomenal job by them to turn it around from Season 1, which after a rewatch was certainly bad for being an AMC drama (still didn’t think it was that bad overall). I stuck with it and was glad I did. The final season was really great and the rest of the seasons were good to great as well.

Man, I just finished the final season last night; seasons 3 and 4 are some absolutely fantastic seasons of dramatic television. I'm still pretty stunned as to how different the second half of the show is from the first; season 2 a is a HUGE improvement on season 1, but I still found it largely just decent enough to keep me wanting to come back to see what happens, but not really invested much beyond that; 3 is really where it took off, and 4 is basically perfect.

Season 1, in hindsight, just seems even worse than I thought, both when I saw it as it aired and rewatching it as part of binging the whole series. It's, like, a good 75% cartoonishly terrible; just riddled with about every cliche of a modern, antihero-centered prestige drama you can think of (which, ironically, is why I didn't start watching Breaking Bad until season 2 because I couldn't get over how corny the whole premise sounded). The first season finale for H&CF is practically disastrous as to how badly it botches the landing (especially disappointing as the 4-5 episodes before it seemed to be rebuilding and succeeding after how bad the ones after the pilot were); it really is miraculous that show was even just renewed (which I can't figure out, since the reviews were middling at best and the ratings were terrible), much less that it became as great as it ended up.

My point? People should watch this show, and they need to watch the first season, but hang with it, dammit. It's worth it.

This is making me pretty excited as I didn't mind Season 1 of Halt and Catch Fire but I stopped keeping up with it after Season 2. I just finished Broadchurch so it's next on the list.

Same.

I don't have a DVR (basic cable is provided with my HOA and I stream so damn much). If you guys would do me a solid and keep just talking about good shows to watch it would be appreciated. (I mean I guess that's what is already going on just urging people to give recommendations - Sofa put me on to Rectify and I absolutely loved it).

Man, Rectify is getting the shaft with home media release, and it's so sad. Only the first 2 seasons are on BR, the 3rd season is only DVD, and the 4th hasn't been released on any kind of disc format in the US. I know it's all easily streamed, but I really, really love that show, and it sucks that I can only get a little more than half the series in physical media.

And I'm curious what the H&CF creators do next, since for one of them it was the first show they had ever worked on, and the other only had handful of really, really minor credits before it. They definitely had to figure things out as they went along, but I'll be all in on whatever show they do next.

Were one of them (or both) involved in that awful idea of a show about what happened if slavery never ended/The South won that got all that backlash (rightfully so)?

HaCF got better, IMO, when the show's focus turned towards Cameron & Donna in season 2. The Gordon episode in the finale season is gorgeous.
