Today my jaw dropped a little bit when I opened up Robinhood.

So obviously I doubled down and threw more money into this pit. I'll invest at the bottom eventually!

I took what little money I had in Robinhood and transferred it to my bank account three weeks ago as soon as the coronavirus news broke.

I didn't touch my stocks because I'm not retiring for 20 years and making short-term panic moves is silly

I mean, getting your money out of the stock market three weeks ago is pretty unquestionably a smart move knowing what we know now. It's not like he liquidated his retirement or anything.

If you're day trading, sure, but if you're in it long term, then why mess with it?

I had too many that were still at ST gains at the time that I didn't want to ordinary income hit on. I did have some ETFs that were shorting some indexes as I was kind of waiting on a economic dip unrelated to coronavirus. Finally popped those at a small gain, but obviously should have held on a few more days!

YTD at 16.6% now. I’ve lost a good chunk of money in the past few weeks.

Selling into a panic when you think the market is going to go down a lot more isn't really a panic move...unless you are paniced...

But yeah, I'm doing the same thing.

The only investments I have are my Roth and my 401k, and basically I'm just not going to even dare to look at them for a good....I dunno, decade?

I am never checking again. I was feeling good after finishing last year just over 8% and was a shade over 17% in early February. That feels like millions of dollars ago.

Dollar cost averaging! It’s a wonderful thing!

As Derwood pointed out, for many people it’s been paper gains and paper losses. And even retirement accounts like 401Ks, Roths, Thrifts, etc., it’s not necessarily an issue right now even if you’re close to retirement. What matters most (time wise relative to the market anyway) is when you plan to draw from the account. And hopefully for persons nearing a drawing age or already drawing from retirement accounts, I would hope they have their funds mostly invested in lower risk/volatile funds.

The market obviously has sucked the last few weeks, like it always has, it will rebound eventually.

He needs to end this before he's on the screen when it dips below 20k.

Edit: Forgot how time works. Just closed.

Decided to check and see how the stock of my former employer was doing. Yikes.
