Yeah, but they didn't "invent" that. This "dilly dilly" horsefeathers is seemingly just nonsense willed out of the ether. They could have gone with "fander fander" or "bonky bonky" or whatever the horsefeathers.

It kinda feels like targeted advertising boiled down to its most calculating and diabolical. Like, they paid a horsefeathers ton of money to figure out that somehow the meaningless phrase "dilly dilly" sets off some kind of primal chemical reaction in certain dudes' lizard brains, and now here we are.

You're probably on to something. I'd love to see the phrases that didn't make the cut.

I didn't know it was more than an ad...I hear it on a prerecorded radio segment in the mornings from time to time, but that's all. Is it more than that?

I figure this would be the best place to ask. A classmate and myself who graduate from the film school are tasked with coming up with content for the school's Instagram and we pitched a food show where we grab lunch with other students. Simple concept, simple execution, but we want to go to good places to eat and primarily not tourist traps that people who have never been to Chicago would not know about (not sure if that's grammatically correct, and I don't care.) We're devising a list of our own to choose from, and I was wondering if anyone in the city has any suggestions. Here's my end of the list so far (not sure what my collaborator has come up with yet). There are no criteria in terms of location or price, so we're just coming up with whatever we can think of.

- Little Bad Wolf (Andersonville)
- Hopleaf (Andersonville)
- Jerry's Sandwich Shop (Andersonville)
- Tweet (good brunch spot, Uptown/Andersonville)
- Big & Littles (all over the place)
- Bad Apple (Ravenswood)
- Art of Pizza (Lakeview)
- Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. (Lincoln Park)
- Lux Bar (Old Town/Gold Coast)
- Little Goat (West Loop)
- Paddy Long's (Lakeview/Lincoln Park)
- Jinya Ramen (Lincoln Park/Lakeview)
- Crisp (Lakeview)
- Monteverde (West Loop/Fulton Market)
- Eleven City Diner (Downtown)
- Lou Mitchell's (West Loop)
- Au Cheval (West Loop/Fulton Market)
- The Beer Bistro (West Loop)
- Nando's Peri-Peri (all over the place)
- Kuma's Corner/Kuma's Too (Logan Square/Lakeview/Lincoln Park)
- 90 Miles Cuban Cafe (Logan Square)
- Old Town Social (Old Town)
- Lady Gregory's (Andersonville/Old Town)
- Goddess and Grocer (Gold Coast)
- Nookies (Old Town)
- Del Seoul (Lincoln Park)
- Stella's Diner (Lakeview)
- Corridor Brewing (Lakeview)
- Vietnam Restaurant (Andersonville/Edgewater)

Would love any additions/suggestions.

Of your list, 90 Miles, Bad Apple, and Hopleaf are my favorite. Irazu and Wasabi are also really good suggestions from directly above. Mine:

Wylde (Lakeview)
Small Bar (Uptown)
Publican (O.G. in West Town)
Johnny's Grill (Logan Square)
Haymarket Brewery (West Town)
Village Tap (Roscoe Village)

Here are a few that I really like

Revival Food Hall (also try the big brother locations for each place)
Bang Bang Pie (more breakfast-y, hope that's not cheating)
Lockdown (it's a blatant Kuma's knockoff but it's good)
Joy's Noodles and Rice
Andy's Thai Kitchen

There's also the food trucks on Wacker and Adams/Clark and Monroe every weekday. Fat Shallot, Corner Farmacy, amd Doner Men are the standouts among those.

Piece (pizza) in Wicker Park. I know New Haven style isn't considered Chicago style but the Atomic pizza is a gift from heaven.

A ravioli covered in chips would probably be pretty good.

Sounds like something taco bell would do, so it will probably suck.

Isn't crunchy ravioli some kind of horrendous thing that St. Louis tries to take pride in as local cuisine?

Toasted ravioli, it is the one St. Louis specific cuisine that is edible, because it's basically another fried appetizer you dip in marinara. It's no crunchier than a mozzarella stick though.

Just had some of this in Chicago this past weekend. I didn't order it...someone else ordered multiple appetizers for our table, but I sure ate it. It's ok...not great, not bad.

So it's basically a flattened mozzarella stick, but they inexplicably call it "toasted?"
