Anyone into fitness?

Postby SRQCub » Wed Mar 23, 2016 3:07 am

Who is into fitness? And what do you do to get your fix?

(And, no, I don't mean "fitness whole pizza in my mouth.")

Compound weight lifting (and weightlifting) movements like squats, bench press, deadlifts, overhead presses, cleans, and snatches are scientifically proven to be best for becoming more athletic and getting a better, longer life. Everything else are just short-term fixes.

Sadly, I can't squat anymore without my groin muscles deciding they did enough work for a week and giving out almost immediately. I wish I could say I knew how to fix that.

My goals for this year were to quit smoking and lose 40 pounds. I have quit smoking and only have 60 pounds to go.

The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight.

I lost 10 lbs. by getting Bronchitis. Between not really wanting to eat and not being able to drink beer it was the best diet ever apart from the coughing and not being able to breathe.

If you really want to lose weight, just get gout. That horsefeathers will make you not eat/drink certain things ever again like beer for me. Lost 45 lbs so far in the past year. Still got like another 60 to go though.

I'm 44, 5'11" and a stocky guy, so when I gain weight it doesn't really go to my gut but rather I just get heavier all over, like thick all over. About a year ago I was 235 and decided if I ever were to get in good shape again I'd better get moving. No big diet plan, but I just changed my lifestyle. No fast food, period. No eating after 9pm. If I can walk somewhere I do so. My days off, my car stays parked and I ride my bike around town and I cut the bar visits down to once or twice a week.

I hit a wall in December at 210 no matter what I did. Around that time my gf decided to go mostly vegetarian, which caused me to eat about 60/40 vegetarian. The weight has come right off and now I'm at around 195.

I guess the moral is that what worked for me is not some big diet plan or exercise routine, but just changing my eating habits and my activity level, which has really helped my overall energy level. I'm by no means a health nut-I splurge on a cheeseburger and like Jameson way too much-but it's what worked for me.

My fitness fell apart once my wife was pregnant with our daughter. She's 18 months old now and I still haven't gotten it back together yet.

My son was born 5 weeks ago. I have lost close to 10 pounds. All of our meals are cooked at home, where before it was eating out more times than not. Also used to go to the bar twice a week, I think I have had 6 beers total in the last month. I didn't realize how bad my eating habits had gotten.

I'm the opposite on beers, now that I am home more I get to drink my beer celler a lot more. Plus was saving up for the wife since she enjoys it too.

Any of you guys into road biking at all? I got on mine again for the first time in a while last night and oh my god I'm saddle sore this morning. Tips and tricks for avoiding this going forward would be appreciated. I have anew seat I got fitted for at the local bike shop. I think my problem might just be that I'm a fatass.

So, yesterday was the L.A. marathon and before it starts a [expletive] of bikers like to ride the route. Well we started at 3 AM and rode for 32 miles from Santa Monica to East Hollywood and up the hill and back around. It was the longest ride I've ever done, the inclines kicked my ass, it was 42 degrees, but it felt amazing to complete it, and I plan to do it every year now.

I don't know what kind of seat you got but I have one of those super thick and cushy ones and I don't get sore there. Not really sure what you can do TBH.

I've lost 50 pounds since September. Paying for personal training. Started in December and have lost 30 pounds since then. I know myself well enough to know I wouldn't go to the gym otherwise, so I had to incentivize it by paying an inordinate amount of money. Small price to pay for being healthy and not headed down a path of diabetes and heart disease.

Props. I'm kind of the same way, really don't like going to the gym unless it's to play basketball. I've lost 15 in the last month and a half by riding my bike everywhere I go and not eating past 10.

That's about when I started, and yeah...I've been doing small group personal training. I'm about the same weight, but I'm up in muscle mass %, and down in fat % which is all I care about.

That's all that matters; BMI needs to go away.
