Guess what an idiot with an illegal pet did this time...

The rumors are true: there’s a 5 foot alligator swimming around in Chicago right in the Humboldt Park lagoon. What more, there’s a man who goes by the moniker of Alligator Bob trying to catch him.

After some sightings and whispering on Tuesday, photographers captured some clear shots of what is definitely a large alligator—swimming around in a place where large alligators should definitely not reside—and authorities confirmed the gator was real.

Call a meeting of the Cubs Board of Directors, throw that critter in the room and lock the door.

HUMBOLDT PARK — Humboldt Park’s new resident alligator is sticking around.

At least that was the vibe Wednesday night as onlookers packed up and went home and the park was cleared of media.

The now-famous “Alligator Bob,” a reptile expert with the Chicago Herpetological Society, was in and out of his canoe throughout the day Wednesday as crowds gathered and squealed when the gator would poke its head out from the lagoon.

But the gator, dubbed Chance the Snapper by Block Club readers in our gator naming contest, is getting bolder.

“He’s comfortable and he’s starting to explore,” Bob said.

And it bears repeating:

But the gator, dubbed Chance the Snapper

This is how just dumb a human being I truly am: first thought on reading "5 foot alligator" was "I could probably take a 5 foot alligator." I could not and would not

I used to live in south Florida and when I was fishing with some friends one day we noticed a baby gator popping up every now and then. We decided to try to catch it. We tossed one of our catches back on the hook and within an hour or so, we had him on the line (actually I had no part in the act but I cheered from the sideline) and got him to the shore. He really didn't put up much of a fight. We were all bluffing like a horsefeathers though because once he got to the shore, we booked it straight into the house. We all trembled as we watched him take a few steps up, turn around, and drag the pole with him back into the water.

But damn did we brag about catching a baby gator to everybody. He wasn't even 5 feet long. And that horsefeathers terrified us.

They never found The Leprechaun lol.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crichton_Leprechaun

EDIT: Nevermind. I guess they found him.

"Numerous witnesses identified the Crichton Leprechaun as a local African American dwarf 'Midget Sean'. The interviewers were brought to meet the man, who recounted the story as a prank played on the local community in which he dressed in a leprechaun suit and climbed a tree while his friends alerted others about a leprechaun sighting."

I mean, "Chance The Snapper" is an amazing name, but it will never compare to the hysteria caused by a Leprechaun in a tree. Several months from now, Chance the Snapper will be forgotten. The Leprechaun will never die

I had been wondering how long it would take before the local authorities gave up and flew in some gator hunter from Florida.
