jesus christ

At what point do states just step outside the federal govt, even if there is some reason their not supposed to. Like I heard a story the other day the Cleveland clinic had to get CDC approval to develop a test. Why don't states just use whatever resource they have and start going at it alone?

The states have been sidestepping the Fed pretty much every step of the way with everything they are doing.

A band I really like (and have seen live probably 25+ times) just posted this on Facebook, and are rightly getting blasted for it:

Reverend Horton Heat is NOT cancelling ANY gigs because of Covid-19. Any gigs that are cancelled will be because the promoters cancelled. I encourage everyone who lives in a jurisdiction where local governments are restricting rock and roll to push back. Write emails and call your local government agencies to remind them that we have the right to assembly. They can’t stop rock and roll!

They are saying they are planning to implement the drive thru testing continent wide. It would be preceded by a Google powered online symptom check...if you have symptoms the site would direct you to the drive thru testing areas and then the website would give you results within 48 hours.

I'm paraphrasing so if I screwed anything up, correct me.

I don't know how it's possible to not know Derwood liked that band. Them and the Drive By Truckers are mentioned in every other post.

I remember your DbT posts, but I didn't think it possible for anyone to actually enjoy RHH. I thought people went to their shows just to shoot up and be horsefeathering miserable.

And I'm sure there's some band you like that I think is terrible. So it goes. I haven't seen RHH in several years, but I saw them a ton in the 90's and always had a good time

According to a report by Reuters, major U.S. internet providers like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon have agreed to not cancel customers’ internet service for the next 60 days due to non-payment, over potential Covid-19-related disruptions. Additionally, the companies have also agreed to waive any late fees residential or small business owners might incur and to open its wifi hotspots to anyone who needs them. The agreement is part of the FCC’s new “Keep Americans Connected” pledge, which was launched today by FCC chairman Ajit Pai.

Serious question that's going to make me sound like a scheming horsefeathers, but it's genuine curiosity:

Do life insurance policies have protection against pandemics or do they pay out in those instances still? I was just thinking about this last night and realize a lot of old people probably have life insurance policies and they're the most susceptible to dying from this illness, and I'm curious if the life insurance companies are going to have a real issue on their hands paying out all these policies if there's a large number of deaths in the senior community because of this.

The Logan is definitely trolling the old person's home looking for takers on buying life insurance policies in exchange for being named 80% beneficiary.

It's a precaution but almost certainly an overreaction. Even in Italy delivery trucks and vans are still restocking stores.

President Obama’s head of Medicare, Medicaid, and ACA said that he was up all night on teleconferences with public health officials all over the US. The top public health officials in the US are holding back info because Trump is insisting on it. He claims this is going to get real bad. By March 23rd our health system is going to be overrun in the largest cities. I have no reason to doubt him, but this is terrifying.

That's some really loaded language there; very few experts "expect" a million or more deaths.

I don’t know enough to be certain that Slavitt is wrong and that the worst case scenario wouldn’t likely happen. With that said, I don’t think anyone expects a million to die in China or Italy - the hardest hit places so far - so why a million in the US? Trump was weeks behind doing what he should have done in response. Then too many people might be weeks behind doing what Trump and the CDC have said to do. Not until hospitals are overrun and there are widespread food shortages will we be shocked into action like we should.
