Eat the rich!

Postby Sammy Sofa » Fri Mar 25, 2022 2:37 pm

Let's have a thread for general rich guy horsefeathers.

https://www.stereogum.com/2180564/goldm ... ooza/news/

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, who previously DJ’d at a crowded mid-pandemic Chainsmokers concert in the Hamptons, is returning to the stage to DJ at Lollapalooza 2022. Yes, Solomon, who CNN explains “moonlights as an electronic dance DJ when he’s not running one of the largest investment banks in the world,” will DJ at the Chicago music festival in July. Solomon — that’s “D-sol” to you — regularly DJs at clubs in Miami and New York.

Wow, what a huge break for a scrappy young upstart who really, really needs it!

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/busin ... 235121043/

Protestors picketing Jay-Z’s Gold Party on Sunday evening, March 27, warmed up by having a party of their own. They erected a step-and-repeat at the end of the Chateau Marmont’s driveway, projected a logo reading “Boycott” in massive blade lettering across the hotel’s exterior, strung lights along Marmont Lane, donned glow sticks, led raucous chants and played disco hits from a DJ rig.

They’d shown up after the billionaire musician had declined to move his event from the grounds of the legendary Sunset Strip property, which has been embroiled in controversy since 2020, when Chateau Marmont owner André Balazs laid off nearly all of his employees at the onset of the pandemic without providing severance packages or extended health insurance. Months later, more than 30 staffers told The Hollywood Reporter about long-simmering workplace issues, including allegations of systemic racial discrimination and sexual misconduct. The UNITE HERE Local 11 hospitality union has led a boycott of the hotel since 2021 and made public appeals for Jay-Z to respect the boycott after the Gold Party’s location was revealed.

The party went on despite the protest. Janelle Monáe and Saweetie soon arrived. They were joined by, among others, Emily Ratajkowski, Daniel Kaluuya, Kim Kardashian, Timothée Chalamet, Rosario Dawson, Michael B. Jordan, Mindy Kaling, Tiffany Haddish, Tyler Perry, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Zoe Kravitz. Questlove was inside spinning “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” as his best documentary Oscar — which he’d won earlier in the night for Summer of Soul — stood sentinel at his DJ rig, as seen on his Instagram account.

I got just under 5% last month and it’s by far the biggest raise I’ve ever received.

The 3% is definitely not typical from my company; the last couple of years have been 1.5%, and it was 2% before that. The horsefeathers part is my project manager tried to sell the 3% like it was some big deal because I guess they don't give it out that often. Pretty sure my response was something along these lines:

I got 3% last year and 4% this year, but between what I'm getting paid and the 20%+ bonus last year and the 25% this year, I can't really complain much.

Put out as many tax returns in 3 months this year as I did in 4 last year. Last year I got a performance bonus, this year I got nothing. Fun times.

What appears to be a floating home in Miami’s Biscayne Bay, isn’t actually a house. At least that’s how lawyers representing the millionaire that owns it argues. County officials are trying to hit the houseboat with a property tax bill, however to the county, it’s not an actual boat.

It is environmentally friendly, featuring things like a rainwater collection system and solar panels. It was purchased by British businessman Jonathan Brown’s company MacKnight International for $3.3 million in 2021. Despite floating in the bay since Brown’s purchase, Miami-Dade County officials have decided to label the Arkup #1 a “floating structure.” The result is a property tax bill of $120,000.

As I’m sure you have noticed and as our own Ryan Erik King pointed out, the Arkup barely meets seaworthiness requirements: it can travel up to five knots (5.75 mph) per hour, has a bow deck with controls for navigation, and has small 136 horsepower thrusters and an anchor system. It honestly comes across as a loophole for rich people to live on the water and not pay property taxes.

We believe the sole reason our client is in this position — an unconstitutional tax assessment — is because of the shape and the style and the look of this boat,” said attorney Ivan Abrams, who represents the boat’s owner, MacKnight International Inc. “If it were designed like any other yacht, we don’t think we’d be in this position.

Hmm … what kind of design could possibly make officials think this was more of a house than a boat.

Maybe not ideally but could we start with this baby boy? So sick of this fraud (mostly bc ppl my age defend him, my own dear sister insisted he is an engineer! aerospace engineer!), smells like a CIA stooge too. In general I’m sick of the US worker getting horsefeathers on by these thieving, lying scum, and the racist caricature of these human workers from China…:

What are the chances that the guy who owns the mansion whose view he's blocking is the person who tipped the county?

Beautiful, and also part of me that's like, "this could represent sensible future of urban waterfront design "

But yea gotta get treated like any other residential property.
