Let's Talk About the Weather

Postby Sammy Sofa » Thu Jan 21, 2016 5:54 pm

We're supposedly about to get 2 feet of snow here in the DC area between Friday and Saturday and I have to work both days. This winter is sneaking up on us here like a mofo. If I have to end up sleeping at work...it's not going to go well.

what kind of crazy gig are you doing that requires weekend work in DC?

my kids were playing on their sleds in the sand in mid-December while wearing summer clothes, so I am looking forward to this storm.

Mid 50s in the mornings is a bit chilly, but up in the 70s by afternoon is nice.

We're supposed to get up to .1" of sleet/ice tonight. I am sure all the milk, bread, and water has been bought at every grocery store by this point.

I don't know where you're from or how often you get sleet or ice, but it's much worse than getting snow.

Eastern North Carolina (Greenville)

yeah, we got a lot of ice last year. it's just that people go crazy if they hear of any winter precipitation like they are going to be stranded for days or weeks.

No doubt, unless you have ice skates that little amount of ice can horsefeathers everything. Think of Marv going down the stairs in Home Alone.

Just the 1.5 inches of snow we got here last night caused all sorts of problems. This weekend is going to suck.

My basement is getting flooded from the rain. I like the drought better.

It's the land of 24/7 government operations.

Someone's got to be here, and it's just bad luck that it's me and the other guy who are scheduled for Friday evenings. Basically just confirmed we'll be camping out here until at least Sunday morning. Thankfully the gym will be open so I can still shower.

Been at work for about 25 hours now. Hopefully will be able to get out of here within the next 24. Before the madness settles in.

My prediction is this guy jumped/fell/was pushed into a pile of snow and won't be discovered until it melts. You could only walk down the streets Saturday night as there was no chance for anybody to clear sidewalks. There were very few cars out, and every plow I saw was moving really slowly, because there were people in the streets. There are plenty of 6'+ drifts and piles on every block to hide a little guy like this.

The other option is he walked to the waterfront and jumped in, which seemingly happens at least once a year.
