Annihilation is insane. Loved the premise and the story, the pacing and development were awesome, there were some truly terrifying moments and tons of suspense. Great acting. I want to read the book to see how everything is described because the direction and cinematography was so good. I snapped the climax because I read how great it was and it didn't disappoint.

Oh, and I just noticed the MPAA rating lists “historical smoking”. That must be new.

It's been around for a few years and I think it may have been inspired by mad men. It makes some sense, because then everybody smoked constantly while now smokers really stick out.

It's been around for a while now; I remember first noticing it show up in the ratings blurb for Monuments Men.

And people owning slaves in the 19th century or using child labor at the turn of the 20th century sticks out too. That doesn’t mean you have to designate an ugly historic activitiy as something specifically needing a warning. Seems superfluous.

Ya I know, old man yells at cloud. By god, back in my day we just had AC, AL, V, BN, and N and weeeee liked it.

I guess historical smoking is the least of it. This is pretty funny.

Those are going to fall under a rating for something like "violence" or "intense situations" or "child abuse" or whatever; smoking isn't really covered under anything, so here we are. I guess the closest would be something, like, "drug use."

Yeah, the smoking could probably fall under “Adult Content”.

Oh, and Jason Clarke became a thing pretty fast. First thing I remember him in was Zero Dark Thirty and that was only like five years ago. Good for him. He was terrific in Mudbound.

Hell, EVERYTHING could fall under "adult content;" that's probably the most BS, meaningless one of them all.

Rewatched a bunch of Nolan stuff recently. Am I totally wrong for thinking that The Prestige is his best movie?

I'm surprised they haven't made an announcement about Ryan Coogler coming back to direct Black Panther 2. I'm sure he's coming back to direct it. It'd be pretty awesome if they could use Kraven The Hunter and make him the main villain for the sequel. Sony has the rights to that character so it probably won't happen.

I always thought of Kraven as a Spider-Man villain. Those rights aren’t with Marvel even though they are working on Spider-Man /MCU movies these days?

Back in the beginning stages of pre-production for Black Panther, Ryan Coogler wanted to use Kraven the Hunter as the main villain in the movie. Coogler spoke to the studio about using Kraven, but Marvel didn't and currently still does not have the rights to the character.

It wouldn't be surprising if he wanted to come back and do it, but the guy already opted out of Creed 2. He's basically the hottest filmmaker around right now and can write his own ticket; honestly, I kinda hope he doesn't do the sequel and keeps doing his own thing.

Yeah, I've also only thought of Kraven as a Spider-Man villain, but after reading how Coogler was interested in using him it made sense. He's a badass and has a cool story. I'm not well-versed in the Black Panther comics. I don't know much about his villains, but Killmonger was a big one and now he's gone.

I bet Marvel and Sony could come to an agreement allowing Coogler to use Kraven as a character for Black Panther 2. Honestly, it makes more sense to have him faceoff against Black Panther than fight this young HS version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Some sell Kraven to me, because outside of the Spider-Man story that ends with him
► Show Spoiler
, he always seemed like an outdated joke of a character in leopard print Spanx.

Oh you would most definitely need to update his character. Yeah the tacky costume is pretty bad. Marvel does a good job of updating characters/villains for their movies. Mandarin was a pretty racist caricature in the comics, and Marvel did a good job updating that character in Iron Man 3.

Kraven is a big game hunter, and what prey or challenge would be greater than defeating/capturing the Black Panther?

It's less the visual aesthetics and more that he's just a dude who is literally just a hunter. I remember when Christopher Priest brought him into the BP comic in the 90's and it was mostly a joke. My guess is that if Coogler had been able to use him it would have just been along the lines of the role Klaw played at the most.

I know Zemo was just a dude in Civil War, but you had a ton of baggage built into that had been set in previous films, plus ultimately it was mainly about pitting the characters against each other. Black Panther is a freakin' king with all of this amazing technology and and a tech suit that puts Iron Man's to shame; honestly, how much of a threat could Kraven possibly be? They'd essentially have to remake him from top to bottom and make him a completely new character outside of re-using the name and the idea that he's hunting another person, which, IMO, is pretty boring.

If they're going to reach outside BP's world for the next villain, I'd rather they bring in someone big like Namor, and do some version of the storyline where Wakanda and Atlantis are at war. Those guys ended up HATING each other, and Namor's kinda perfect villain material.

I know where you're going and there is a very good reason why they hate each other in the comics. I'm just not a big fan of Namor and the setting of Atlantis in the Marvel universe. A lot of fans want to see this though. If you have problems seeing Kraven and Black Panther duel each other then how could Namor and Black Panther fight each other in a realistic way?
