It is absolutely incredible that he was being treated for the last 4 years as he worked and filmed movies. Chemo and surgeries during breaks in his shooting schedule? Jesus.

You truly never know what other people are dealing with in their lives.

Celebrity deaths don't often hit me this hard.

I was roughly ten years old when Christopher Reeve broke his neck and became paralyzed. I was certainly old enough to recognize he was an actor, not actually Superman. But nonetheless, it shattered my security a bit -- to know that Superman was just as fragile as the rest of us.

But in today's political environment, I can only imagine how many young black children were looking to the Black Panther as a source of inspiration and strength to help them get through the day. And to see them suddenly have to reckon with their mortality and that of their loved ones at such a scary time in our history is just heartbreaking to me.

That's why it's hitting me hard.

Yea. I think Blank Panther was his only movie I even have seen and still felt like I spent all of last night with my jaw dropped.

I'd originally written more on my post adding similar thoughts, but wasn't happy with how I'd expressed them, but this exactly it.

Bill and Ted 3 is way better than it has any right to be. Easily the best of the three.

And what does strength entail, exactly? The Mulan of the 1998 film (who notably retained her impishness throughout the movie) displayed her strength through determination and cleverness. The 2020 Mulan possesses those same traits, but Jaffa, Silver, Hynek, and Martin also introduce the concept of chi, or life force. Though everyone possesses chi — it exists everywhere — Mulan is overflowing with it, and that excess of chi is what makes her special, rather than her resolve in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

The change feels akin to the way The Rise of Skywalker refuted The Last Jedi’s suggestion that a hero could come from anywhere. Rather than allowing Rey to come from humble beginnings, The Rise of Skywalker turned her into a descendant of one of the franchise’s most powerful characters.

That is disappointing...I hear it LOOKS really good so there's that

Has anyone seen I'm Thinking of Ending Things? I've never so anticipated and dreaded watching a movie before. I've decided to rewatch some old Kaufman instead. This thing is probably gonna sit in my queue for a while, with Archer and Fargo coming back so soon, as well

The wife and I have talked about watching it...it just hasn't happened yet. It has a very Sunshine of the Spotless Mind feel to it from the trailer.

I read the book it was based on a while back as I saw it recommended somewhere as it was going to be adapted by Kaufman. Without getting into spoilers I'll just say I did not like the last part of the book. I'll probably watch this weekend.

Did not get that at all. It doesn't look like any fun to watch to me. The bleak existentialism of Synecdoche with the horror setting of Get Out

We watched The Lobster last night. That was certainly...something. Less a coherent movie and more just a series a random things happening. I was hoping for a polyamorous tribe to show up.

And now Deadline is reporting that WW84 and Dune will probably move release dates. Not surprising.

Not sure if this goes here or in the music thread, but I finally saw Hamilton. It was as great as advertised.

Just finished it. I'm happy to report that while being a pretty faithful adaptation for the first 80%, he went and Charlie Kaufman'd the hell out of that last 20%.

This is definitely a movie I would only feel comfortable recommending to people that like Charlie Kaufman.

Blue Ruin (2013)

https://images.app.goo.gl/pLMNndGzkGLv2azCA

It is on Netflix. I got the recommendation from avclub.

This man is inept and revenge driven. The first half of the film has so little dialogue it suprises you with its moderate use in the second. Very good film. 7.8/10

We're nearing the best time of year to watch the best genre of movies, horror, Netflix is putting out a bunch of new or newish stuff...Some of these are definitely movies I'll watch: #Alive (solid!), Vampires v. The Bronx, The Paramedic, Hubie Halloween, Cadaver, Oktoberfest: Beer and Blood, La Revolution, The Babysitter: Killer Queen

For some reason, it's super irritating to me when horror gets lumped into "genre" books/movies with SciFi.
